Zephaniah GREENFIELD (1752-1838)

and Susanna STENNING (1752-1841)

 

Zephaniah Greenfield and Susanna Stenning married by banns on 6 November 1774 in Slinfold, Sussex.  They were both then of Slinfold.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Zephaniah Greenfield was baptised on 24 November 1752 in Slinfold, Sussex.  He was the son of Zephaniah Greenfield (c1720-1800) and Ann Greenfield.  Zephaniah died aged 85 years and was buried on 8 February 1838 in Horsham.

Susanna Stenning was baptised on 5 June 1752 in Slinfold, Sussex.  She was the daughter of John Stenning and Mary (possibly Mary Greenfield who had married John Styening on 19 October 1731 in Slaugham.  Mary was of Beeding and John of Ockley.)  Susannah died aged 88 years and was buried on 7 January 1841 in Horsham.

 

Zephaniah Greenfield and Susanna Stenning had 10 known children: 

  1. William Greenfield was baptised on 15 December 1775 in Horsham.  He died aged 79 years and was buried on 6 February 1855 in Horsham.

    William married Mary Pollard by licence on 12 March 1798 in Horsham.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were James Rowland and Benjamin Potter.  Their marriage licence was issued on 10 March 1798 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester, which recorded that they were both aged 21 years and upwards and both of Horsham.  William was a bachelor and labourer, and she was a spinster.  The sponsors of the licence were William himself and Thomas Redford a farmer of Warnham.

    William and Mary had the following children:

    1. Mary Ann Greenfield was baptised on 22 July 1798 in Horsham.

    2. George Greenfield was baptised on 4 January 1801 in Horsham.

    3. Hannah Greenfield was baptised on 13 March 1803 in Horsham.

    4. Elizabeth Greenfield was baptised on 5 May 1805 in Horsham.

    5. Rebecca Greenfield was baptised on 15 March 1807 in Horsham.

    6. William Greenfield was baptised on 4 June 1809 in Horsham.

    7. Jane Greenfield was baptised on 17 June 1811 in Horsham.

    8. Harriet Greenfield was baptised on 21 November 1813 in Horsham.  The baptism register noted that her father was a labourer.

    9. Stephen Greenfield was baptised on 18 August 1816 in Horsham.

  2. Mary Greenfield was baptised on 8 November 1777 in Horsham.

  3. Daniel Greenfield was baptised on 16 April 1780 in Horsham.  He married Sarah Thorns in 1815.  (They have their own page.)

  4. Sarah Greenfield was baptised on 2 June 1782 in Horsham.

    Sarah may have married William Page by banns on 17 May 1803 in Horsham.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were Daniel Greenfield and Sarah Page.

  5. Elizabeth Greenfield was baptised on 17 April 1784 in Horsham.

  6. Susanna Greenfield was baptised on 11 March 1786 in Horsham.

  7. Benjamin Greenfield was baptised on 8 June 1788 in Horsham.  He may have been buried on 4 November 1789 in Horsham.  The burial register noted that he was a child.

  8. Jane Greenfield was baptised on 16 January 1791 in Horsham.

  9. Phebe Greenfield was baptised on 28 April 1793 in Horsham.  Phoebe died aged 66 years on 3 November 1859 and was buried on 6 November 1859 in Horsham.

    Phoebe married Samuel Mitchell by banns on 1 October 1812 in Horsham.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were William Page and Sarah Page.

    Samuel died aged 74 years and was buried on 23 October 1864 in Horsham.

    Samuel and Phoebe had the following children:

    1. Isaac Mitchell

    4. William Mitchell

    5. Edward Mitchell

    6. George Mitchell

    7. Harriet Mitchell
