Thomas GRANT (c1720-1804)

and Jane GOBLE (c1730-?)

Thomas Grant and Jane Goble were married by banns on 15 May 1753 in Ashurst, Sussex.  They were both then of Ashurst.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Thomas Grant may have been born about 1720 and have been the son of Thomas Grant (1681-?) and Jane.  He died in 1804.

Jane Gobleís date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might she have been the daughter of John Goble and Ann Christopher who married on 17 August 1722 in Pyecombe, Sussex when they were both of Hurstpierpoint, or the daughter of John Goble and Ann Hayler who married on 10 November 1715 in Henfield, when they were both of Henfield?  The only possible baptism in the IGI is that on 10 December 1726 in Itchingfield, Sussex, the daughter of Thomas Goble and Jane Mathew who had married on 10 June 1822 in Itchingfield.

Thomas Grant and Jane Goble had 3 known children:

  1. Jane Grant was born in 1755.  She may have married William Allen by banns on 18 September 1774 in West Grinstead.  At the time they were both of West Grinstead.

  2. Thomas Grant was born in 1758.  He married Jenny Botting.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Ann Grant was born in 1761.  She may have married Thomas Golds by banns on 5 June 1783 in Ashington, Sussex.  He was then a bachelor of Ashington and she a spinster of West Grinstead.

Many thanks to Anthony Grant for details on this page.
