Thomas GRANT
(c1650-1686)
and Jane GRATWYCK (c1655-1715)

Thomas
Grant and
Jane Gratwicke
were married on 13 February 1676/7 in
Ashurst, Sussex. He was then of Steyning, Sussex and she of Henfield,
Sussex. (They were not my direct ancestors.)
Thomas
Grant’s date and place of birth/baptism are
unknown, to me. He died in 1686 or maybe on 27 December 1690.
Might he have been a son of
Thomas Grant and
Joan Penfold who
married on 23 May 1644, or the son of William Grant and Elizabeth
Hilton who married on 21 April 1645, both marriages took place in West
Grinstead, Sussex. Thomas was of Stoning and of the Bell Frame.
Jane Gratwyck’s
date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me. She was buried on
30 May 1715. She may have been the daughter of Major John Gratwick.
Her mother may have been Mildred Milner who married John Gratwick
on 7 May 1655 at St. Gregory by St. Paul in London. At the time John
was of Shermanbury, Sussex and Mildred of the parish of St. Gregory.
Thomas Grant and Jane
Gratwyck had 5 known children:
-
Thomas
Grant was baptised on 23 November
1677 and was buried on 25 August 1680.
-
John Grant was born in 1679.
-
Thomas Grant was baptised on 1 May 1681. He
married Jane. They had 1 known son:
-
Thomas Grant
was born about 1720. He married
Jane Goble
in 1753. (They have their own page.)
-
Mary Grant was born in 1682.
Mary may have married
Henry Denman
by licence on 16 December 1716 in
Henfield, but there was another
Mary
Grant born in 1688. Their marriage licence was issued on 15 December 1712 by
the Archdeaconry of Lewes, which recorded that Mary was a spinster of
Henfield and Henry of Shermanbury.
Henry was baptised on 12 January
1679/80 in Shermanbury and was the son William Denman (1636-?) and
Susan Godsmark (1640-?). Henry may have previously married
Mary Woolvin by licence dated 4 June 1706.
-
Jane Grant was born in 1684.
