William GOBLE (c1730-1770)

and Ann (c1735-?)

William Goble and Ann may have married sometime before or about 1756 in the Easebourne area of Sussex, but no possible marriage has been found for them in the Sussex marriage index.  There was another couple by the name of William Goble and Ann who had children baptised in Selham, Sussex between 1746 and 1765.

William Goble's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He was buried on 1 September 1770 in Easebourne, Sussex.  Given that he named a daughter Barbara, might he have been the son of John Gobell and Barbara Butler who married on 2 May 1726 in Heyshott, Sussex?  John and Barbara were both of Stedham, Sussex when they married.  Or might he have been baptised on 22 May 1723 in Elsted, Sussex, the son of Richard Goble and Mary Terry?  Or, baptised on 13 February 1731 in Midhurst, Sussex, the son of John Goble and Susanna?

Ann's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

William Goble and Ann may have had the following children:

  1. Jane Goble was baptised on 19 December 1756 in Easebourne.

  2. William Goble was baptised on 1 April 1759 in Easebourne.

  3. Sarah Goble was baptised on 4 January/May 1760 in Easebourne, Sussex.

Sarah married John Hearsey by banns on 18 October 1778 in Easebourne.  They were both then of the tithing of South Ambersham.

John and Sarah had the following children:

    1. Sarah Hearsey was baptised on 3 October 1779 in Easebourne.

    2. Elizabeth Hersey was baptised on 16 February 1784 in Easebourne and buried on 2 March 1784.

    3. John Hersey was baptised on 10 December 1786 in Selham.

    4. James Hearsey was baptised on 14 June 1789 in Selham.

    5. Richard Hersey was baptised on 10 June 1791 in Easebourne.

    6. Thomas Hearsey was baptised on 30 August 1795 in Selham.

  4. Richard Goble was baptised on 6 January/June 1762 in Easebourne.

Richard married Sarah King on 13 October 1785 in Midhurst.  He was then a bachelor of Tillington.  She was a spinster of Midhurst.  The witnesses to the marriage were Ann King and William Vase.

Richard and Sarah had the following children:

    1. Ann Goble was baptised on 3 December 1786 in Selham.  She may have married William Hall by banns on 10 February 1812 in Midhurst, Sussex.  He was a bachelor and she a spinster, they were both of Midhurst and both made their X marks.  The witnesses were Dina Goble and Henry Pitman.

    2. Sarah Goble was baptised on 15 May 1788 in Selham.

    3. Jane Goble was baptised on 15 April 1792 in Selham.

    4. William Goble was baptised on 22 February 1793/5 in Selham.

    5. Dinah Goble was baptised on 1 July 1798 in Selham.  She married John Langley by banns on 9 February 1830 in Midhurst, Sussex.  He was then a bachelor and she a spinster.  The witnesses to the marriage were Richard Goble and Ann Hall.

    6. Frances Goble was baptised on 1 July 1798 in Selham.

    7. Mary Goble was baptised on 18 August 1803 in Easebourne.

    8. Richard Goble was baptised on 19 December 1805 in Selham.

    9. Catherine Goble was born about 1808 and was buried on 7 October 1826.

  5. Henry Goble was baptised on 21/22 October 1764 in Easebourne.

  6. Barbara Goble was baptised on 15 May 1768 in Easebourne.

Barbara married Henry Carter by banns on 29 May 1792 in Lodsworth.  He was then of Tillington and she of Lodsworth.

Henry and Barbara had the following children:

    1. Richard Carter was baptised on 3 October 1794 in Easebourne.

    2. Henry Carter was baptised on 10 November 1799 in Easebourne.  He married Mary Putnam by banns on 25 November 1823 in Funtington.  They were both then of Funtington.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Weeks and Ann Carter.  Mary was baptised on 27 February 1803 in Terwick and was the daughter of Thomas Putnam (1771-?) and Elizabeth Fairmanner (1769-?).  Her paternal grandparents were John Putnam (1736-?) and Elizabeth Willard (1744-?) who was the daughter of John Willard and Mary Saite (1703-?).

    3. Harriot Carter was baptised on 2 May 1802 in Easebourne.
