George GOBLE (1878-?)

and Ada HOBDEN (1881-?)

 

George Goble, b.1878 - thanks to Ray Goble for this photoGeorge Goble and Ada Hobden married on 15 October 1899 at St. Andrews, Portslade, Sussex.  At the time George was a 21 year old bachelor and hawker of Portslade-by-Sea.  Ada was an 18 year old spinster of Portslade.  The witnesses to their marriage were David August Hobden and Eliza Goble.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  George was the nephew of my 2x Great Grandfather, Edmund Goble.)

George Goble was baptised on 4 August 1878 in Portslade.  He was the son of George Goble (1850-?) and Charlotte Overy.

Ada Hobden was born about 1881 in Fishersgate, Sussex and was the daughter of Augustus Hobden (1850-?) and Elizabeth Jane Hale.  Did Ada leave George for a man named Taylor?

In 1901 George was a hawker of greengrocery and living at 41 Wolseley Road, Portslade, along with wife Ada and her 14 year old brother, whose name was recorded as Lendrell Hobden, but should probably read Demetrius Hobden.

 

George Goble and Ada Hobden had 3 known children:

  1. George Goble was born on 7 July and baptised on 5 October 1902 in Portslade.

    George married his cousin Ivy Louise Goble (1902-?).

    Ivy was the daughter of George Goble (1870-?) and Elizabeth Lamkin (1873-?).  George and Ivy had the following child:

    1. Dennis George Goble was born on 9 March 1925 and died aged 66 years in September 1991 in the Lambeth registration district of London.

      Dennis married Joyce Rose Byatt.

      Joyce was born on 8 January 1926 and died aged 77 years in September 2003.

      Dennis and Joyce had the following children:

      1. Anne J. Goble

      2. Raymond D. Goble

  2. Albert Goble was born 5 June 1904 at 15 St. Aubynes Road in Fishersgate.  His father registered in birth on 5 August 1904, and George was then a hawker of 15 Gordon Road, Fishersgate.  Albert was given the nickname "Kipper".

  3. Irene Goble was born on 25 June 1906 at 79 Albion Street, Southwick.
