George GOBLE
(1850-?)
and Charlotte OVERY (c1852-1922)

George Goble and Charlotte Overy married on 11 October 1873 in
Portslade, Sussex. He was a 22 year old bachelor and brickmaker of
Portslade. She was a 23 year old spinster of Portslade. The
witnesses to the marriage were James Goble and Ann Goble.
(They were not my direct ancestors. George was the brother of my 2x
Great Grandfather, Edmund Goble.)
George Goble was born on 14 August 1850 in Emmsworth, Hampshire.
(I have a copy of his birth certificate.)
He was the third son and fourth child of
George Goble
(1807-1886) and
Sarah Baxter (1815-1880). At the time of the 1851 census he
was 7 months old and living with his parents at 31 Hoeford, Fareham. When the 1861 census was recorded
he was a 9 year old scholar living in Alverstoke, Hampshire with his
parents.
Charlotte Overy may have been born in the second quarter of 1852 in
Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex. She was the daughter of George Overy.
Charlotte died aged 70 years on 22 August 1922 and was buried in the
Victoria Road Cemetery in Portslade.
When the 1881 census was recorded the family were living in Lancing, Sussex
and George was a moulder in a brickfield.
George Goble
and Charlotte Overy had 8 known children:
-
Emily Louisa Goble was born in 1875 in Portslade.
Emily married
Frederick James Trigwell in the second quarter of 1896.
Frederick
was born about 1876 in Hove, Sussex. The 1901 census records that
Frederick Tugwell was a bricklayer and at 76 Trafalgar Road,
Portslade, along with his wife Emily, their 2 children,
mother-in-law Charlotte Goble, who was recorded as married but
husband George was not at the same address, and 3 of Charlotte's
daughters.
Fred and Emily had at least 2 children:
-
Emily Winifred Trigwell was born in the third quarter of 1898 in
Portslade.
-
Frederick Trigwell was born about 1900 in Portslade.
-
Sarah Ann Goble was born in the third quarter of 1876 in Lancing,
Sussex. She may have married James Pierce in the second
quarter of 1900 in the Steyning registration district.
-
George Goble was baptised on 4 August 1878 in Portslade.
He married Ada
Hobden in 1899. (They have their own page.)
-
Elijah Edward Goble was baptised on 3 October 1880 in Portslade.
He died aged 20 years and his death was registered in the first quarter
of 1901 in the Steyning registration district.
-
Eliza Mary Ann Goble was born in 1882 in Lancing. She died
in1962 and was buried in the Victoria Road Cemetery in Portslade.
Eliza married twice, firstly to Henry Stanley on 10 August 1901 in
the parish church of Southwick, Sussex. The witnesses were James
Pierce and Sarah A. Pierce.
Henry and Eliza had 1
son:
-
Noah Henry George Stanley was born in the third quarter of 1905.
He went on to become the landlord of The Stanley Arms in Wolseley Road,
Portslade, a pub which had previously been tenanted by his Great Uncle
Edmund Goble (c1841-1911).
-
Elizabeth Alice Goble was born in the fourth quarter of 1884 in
Lancing. She married Mr. Earl. It is not thought there
were any children from this marriage.
-
Edith Goble was born about 1889 in Lancing. Her birth was
registered in the first quarter of 1890 in the Steyning registration
district.
-
Violet Goble was born on 28 October 1893 and baptised on 1 April
1894 at St. Andrews, Portslade. She married Mr. Goatcher.
