Elijah Edward Goble and
Amy Esther Newnham married in the fourth quarter of 1886 in the
Steyning registration district. (They were not my direct ancestor.
Elijah was the brother of my 2x Great Grandfather, Edmund Goble.)
Elijah Edward Goble was baptised on 24 July 1859 in Rowner,
Hampshire. He was the son of
George Goble
(1807-1886) and Sarah
Baxter (1815-1880). He was 2 years old when the 1861 census was recorded. Elijah was a labourer, brickmaker, publican,
shopkeeper and general dealer. In 1881 he was living with his
father and brother John's family at The Windmill Inn, Hove.
Amy Esther Newnham was baptised on 9
July 1865 in Hove, Sussex. She was the daughter of
Benjamin Newnham
(1838-?) and
Ellen
Pumfrey (1842-?).
In 1901 the family were living at 3 East Street, Portslade along with a
lodger, 13 year old Charles Hoskins, a clerk, who had been born
in Selham, Sussex.
