Edmund Goble and
Mary Ann Browning married in the fourth quarter of 1891 in the Steyning, Sussex
registration district. (They were not my direct ancestors.
Edmund was the the brother of me Great Grandmother, Emma Charlotte
Goble.)
Edmund Goble was born in the second quarter
of 1862 in Fareham, Hampshire. He was baptised at the age of 7 years
on 30 July 1869 in Portslade, Sussex. He was the son of

(c1841-1911) and
Lydia Pearson
(1837-1899). Edmund died aged 83 years on 12 March 1946.
Mary Ann Browning was baptised on 26 March 1870
in Portslade. She was the daughter of
Henry Browning (1847-?) and
Mary Peters. Mary Ann died aged 68 years on 11 April 1938.
In 1901 Edmund was a brickmaker and the family were living at 21 Elm Road,
Portslade. By 1911 the couple and their 5 children were living at 59
Wolseley Road, Southern Cross, Portslade and Edmund was a 48 year old
gardener. Mary Ann was then 41 and the census noted they had been
married 19 years.

and Mary Ann Browning had 5 known children:

Matthew Goble was born in 1892 in Fishersgate, Sussex and killed in
action on 22 July 1916 on the Somme in France, aged 24 years. The
CWGC
web site records that he was the son of Edward and Mary A. Goble of 59
Wolseley Road, Portslade. At the time of his death he was a Corporal
in the 1st Battalion of the Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). He
was buried in the Caterpiller Valley Cemetery in Longueval, France.
When the 1911 census was recorded he was an 18 year old gardener living with
his parents.

Mary Ann Kate Goble was born on 10 January 1894 and baptised on 6 May
1894 at St. Andrews, Portslade. In 1911 she was a 17 year old packer.

David Henry Goble was born on 14 September 1895 and baptised on 6
March 1898 at St. Andrews, Portslade. He died on 28 April 1922.
In 1911 he was a 15 year old domestic page boy.

Edmund Thomas Goble was born on 11 December 1897 and baptised on 6
March 1898 at St. Andrews, Portslade. He was a 13 year old scholar in
1911.

Henry Roberts Buller Goble was born on 24 February 1900 and baptised
on 3 June 1900 at St. Andrews, Portslade. He was an 11 year old
scholar in 1911.
