Thomas GADSBY (c1680-?)

and Mary THORPE (c1685-?)

 

Thomas Gadsby and Mary Thorp married on 9 June 1707 in Uckfield, Sussex.  He was then of Little Horsted and she of Uckfield.

Thomas Gadsby's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He may have been the son of Edward Gadsby and Joan.

Mary Thorpe's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She may have been baptised on 10 April 1679 in East Grinstead, Sussex and have been the daughter of Jervis Thorpe and Ann.

 

Thomas Gadsby and Mary Thorpe had 4 known children:

  1. Mary Gadsby was baptised on 17 October 1708 in Little Horsted.  She had an illegitimate daughter:

    1. Mary Gadsby was baptised on 6 February 1732/3 in Little Horsted.  She married John Osborne on 21 January 1754 in Framfield.  He was born about 1730 in Framfield and was the son of George Osborne and Ann Weller.

  2. John Gadsby was baptised on 22 February 1709/10 in Little Horsted.  He may have married twice, firstly to Sarah Durant on 27 April 1738 in Little Horsted.  They had 2 known children:

    1. Sarah Gadsby was baptised on 8 July 1739 in Little Horsted.

    2. Ann Gadsby was baptised on 31 March 1741 in Framfield.

    John may then have married Elizabeth before or about 1743, or Elizabeth and Sarah may have been one and the same, as no possible marriage as so far been found for John and Elizabeth.  They had 1 known daughter:

    1. Susanna Gadsby was baptised on 24 July 1743 in Framfield.  She married William Elphick by licence on 20 January 1774 in Framfield.  Their marriage licence was issued on 19 January 1774 by the Archeaconry of Lewes and recorded that William was a bachelor and yeoman, and Susanna a spinster.  They were both over the age of 21 and both of Framfield.

  3. Elizabeth Gadsby was baptised on 31 May 1712 in Little Horsted.  She married John Banks on 6 May 1734 in Little Horsted.

  4. Sarah Gadsby was baptised on 26 November 1716 in Little Horsted.  She married John Ellman on 5 November 1747 in Ringmer, Sussex.  They had 2 known children:

    1. John Ellman was baptised on 20 March 1747/8 in Ringmer.  He married Elizabeth Warder on 24 November 1777 in Ringmer.

    2. Richard Ellman was baptised on 2 February 1748/9 in Ringmer.  He married Lucy Kennard on 24 April 1781 in West Firle.
