Edward GADSBY (c1650-1718)

and Joan (c1650-1728)

Edward Gadsby and Joan were my 7x Great Grandparents.   5 138 (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They may have married sometime before or about 1676, but no possible marriage has been found for them in the Sussex Family History Group's marriage index or the IGI.  However, a database at Ancestry notes that Edward married Jane Wefer.

Edward Gadsby's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He was buried on 5 June 1718 in Little Horsted, Sussex.

Joan's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She was buried on 4 December 1728 in Little Horsted.  The burial register noted that she was a widow.

Edward and Joan would seem to have been the first Gadsby couple to have had children born in Sussex.

Edward Gadsby and Joan had 6 known children:

  1. John Gadsby was baptised on 22 July 1676 in Little Horsted, the son of Edward and Joan.

  2. Edward Gadsby was baptised on 17 March 1677/8 in Little Horsted, the son of Edward and Joan.  He most probably married Eleanor Young on 22 June 1710 at All Saints in Lewes, Sussex.  (They have their own page.)

  3. Thomas Gadesbe was baptised on 16 November 1679 in Little Horsted.  He married Mary Thorp in 1707.  (They have their own page.)

  4. George Gadsbe was baptised on 8 July 1683 in Little Horsted.  He married twice, firstly to Elizabeth Norden in 1706 and then Elizabeth Burgess in 1714.  (They have their own page.)

  5. William Gadsby was baptised on 12 May 1687 in Little Horsted, the son of Edward and Joan, and buried there on 21 May 1686.

  6. Sarah Gadsby was baptised on 12 May 1687 in Little Horsted, the daughter of Edward and Joan, and buried there on 21 May 1686.

A Joan Weaver was baptised on 9 July 1648 in Framfield, the daughter of William Weaver.

A Joan Weaver married John Akehurst on 17 September 1678 in Rotherfield.
