Thomas FULLER (1737-1822)

and Mary WRATTEN (1737-?)

All Saints, Herstmonceux, 21 March 2006Thomas Fuller and Mary Wratten married on 5 March 1764 at the parish church of All Saints in Herstmonceux, Sussex.  The banns were published in February and March in Brede.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  Thomas was the brother of my 5x Great Grandmother, Sarah Fuller.)

Thomas Fuller was baptised on 20 January 1736/7 in Brede, Sussex.  He was the son of John Fuller (1715-1795) and Elizabeth Longley (1712-1767).  In 1795 he was a husbandman of Udimore in Sussex.  He died aged 85 years and was he buried on 27 August 1822 in Icklesham, Sussex.

Mary Wratten was baptised on 30 May 1737 in Herstmonceux.  She was the daughter of John Wratten (1713-?) and Mary Honeysett (1709-?).  Mary's brother William Wratten married Judith Marshall.  (Mary Honeysett was the daughter of Richard Honeysett (1679-1733) and Ann Nye - see Peter Hunnisett's website.)

Thomas Fuller and Mary Wratten had 8 known children:

  1. Mary Fuller was baptised on 13 January 1765 in Brede.  She died/buried on 13 March 1786 in Ticehurst, Sussex

Mary married Thomas Morgan by licence on 3 April 1782 in Brede, at which time he was of Salehurst, Sussex and she of Brede.

Might Thomas have been the son of Edward Morgin and Lucy Cornford?  They married on 11 April 1757 in Hawkhurst, Kent, at which time Edward was of Mountfield, Sussex and Lucy of Hawkhurst.  The witnesses to their marriage were Thomas Clappson and William Exeter.

  2. John Fuller was baptised on 2 February 1766 in Brede.

  3. Henry Fuller was baptised on 10 May 1767 in Brede.  He died aged 50 years and was buried on 1 March 1826 in Udimore.

  4. Elizabeth Fuller was baptised on 11 March 1770 in Brede.

  5. James Fuller was baptised on 15 October 1771 in Brede.  It is currently thought that he married twice.  Firstly to Mary Freeman on 9 February 1803 in Udimore, Sussex, at which time he was of Icklesham, Sussex.  And then to Jane Adams on 20 November 1808 in Icklesham.  James Fuller of Icklesham was a shoemaker and he died after 1838.

Please see Margaret Taylor's web pages for more details about James Fuller.

  6. Joseph Fuller was baptised on 28 March 1773 in Brede.

Joseph married Ann Morgan on 11 July 1795 in Guestling, Sussex.

Was Ann a sister of Thomas, who married Joseph's sister Mary?
