Thomas FRENCH (c1570-1634)

and unknown (?-?)

 

Thomas French left a will dated 1 November 1634 and proved on 14 November 1634.  He was then a yeoman of Dallington, Sussex.  In his will he mentioned his wife Elizabeth and 4 daughters.  Thomas may have married Elizabeth Brooke on 24 June 1624 in Lullington, Sussex.  He may have previously married Dorothy B--che on 12 October 1595 in Ashburnham, Sussex.

 

Thomas French and unknown had 4 known children:

  1. Elizabeth French was mentioned in her father's will as the wife of Bartholomew Jeffry.  She married Bartholomew Jefferis on 12 December 1623 in Ashburnham.

  2. Constance French was mentioned in her father's will as the wife of William W--on.

  3. Joan French was mentioned in her father's will as Joan Elficke.  As Joane Elphicke she may have married Thomas Lullam on 29 May 1638 in Dallington.

    Joan had the following daughter:

    1. Elizabeth Elficke was mentioned in her grandfather's will.

  4. Ann French was mentioned in her father's will as the wife of William Wimble.

    Ann married William Wimble on 3 June 1622 in Brightling.

    William and Ann had the following children:

    1. Elizabeth Wimbell was baptised on 28 September 1623 in Dallington.  She may have married William Eston by licence on 7 June 1642 in Udimore, Sussex.  William was then a tanner of Ninfield and Elizabeth was a spinster of Ashburnham.  Or she may have married Jeremy Snep on 30 September 1651 in Brightling.

    2. William Wimble was baptised on 18 September 1625 in Dallington.  He may have married Alice Read on 18 July 1650 in Ashburnham.  Or he may have married Katherine Chapman on 16 October 1662 in Chiddingly, Sussex.  William was then of Brightling and Katherine of Chiddingly.

    3. John Wimbl was baptised on 6 May 1632 in Dallington.  He may have married Joan Farely on 20 May 1660 in Dallington.

    4. Dorothy Wimble was baptised on 12 October 1634 in Dallington.  Might she have been named after her grandmother?  Dorothy may have married Richard Medhurst on 8 August 1653 in Playden, Sussex.

    5. Bridget Wimble was baptised on 5 March 1636 in Dallington.  A Bridget Wimble had married Richard Skinner on 30 October 1621 in Brightling.  Might the elder Bridget have been the aunt of the younger Bridget?
