Stephen FRENCH
(c1555-1606)
and Barbara FOWLE (c1560-?)

Stephen French
and
Barbara Fowle
married on 3 June 1579
in Rotherfield, Sussex.
Stephen French
was the son of John French (c1530-1590) and Joane. He
died on 19 October 1606 in Chiddingly, Sussex. Stephen was a yeoman
of Stream House in Chiddingly. He was named in his father's will.
Stephen's own will was made on 4 October 1605 and proved in 1607. An
inquisition post mortem was undertaken on 21 January 1607 to ascertain what
lands and property Stephen had held.
Barbara Fowle
was the daughter of
Anthony Fowle
(c1536-1567) and
Margery Shurlock.
She was mentioned in the 1560 will of her paternal grandfather, William
Fowle (c1500-1566) and that of her father in 1567.
Stephen French and
Barbara Fowle had 5 known children:

Mary French
was buried in Westham, Sussex on 18 May 1645.
Mary married John
Meere by licence which was dated 17 May 1600 and issued by the
Archdeaconry of Lewes. It recorded that Mary was a spinster of
Chiddingly and John was of West Ham.
John was the son of Thomas Meers and Alice Denward.
He was an executor to his
brother-in-law's will of 1631. He was of Glinley. He may have
been buried on 13 May 1645 in Westham, but it would seem his will was
proved by his son John on 15 February 1644/5 in Lewes.

French married Richard Glover on 19 May 1607 in Chiddingly.

Joane or
Jane French
was buried on 17 October 1640 in Waldron. Joan married
Captain Samuel Fuller by
licence on 13 or 18 July 1615 in Chiddingly. Their marriage licence was
issued on the 8 July 1615 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, and it recorded
that he was a gent of Waldron and she a spinster of Chiddingly.
Surety for the licence was provided by Samuel and Thomas French a
gent of Chiddingly. Samuel was baptised on 18 May 1589 in Waldron
and was the son of John Fuller and Elizabeth Franke.
He was of Tanhouse or Tanners Manor in Waldron. Samuel was an executor to his
brother-in-law's 1631 will. He was buried in February 1563.
Samuel and Joan had the following children:
John
Fuller was baptised on 1 August 1617 in Waldron. He was buried
in Waldron on 30 May 1679. John married Ann Nutt on 8 August
1643 in Berwick, Sussex. Ann was born about 1621 and was the
daughter of John Nutt of Mayes, Selmeston, Sussex and Anne Dunck.
Elizabeth
Fuller was baptised on 19 January 1618 in Waldron and buried there on
17 June 1640.
Samuel
Fuller was born about 1620. He was buried on 10 May 1678 in
Waldron. Samuel married Cecily Worger.
Barbara
Fuller was baptised on 7 April 1622 in Waldron.
Mary
Fuller was baptised on 2 May 1824 in Waldron.
French
Fuller was baptised on 22 January 1626 in Waldron. He was
buriedon 24 October 1657 in Waldron. French married Martha
Crowhurst.
Stephen
Fuller was born about 1626.
Thomas
Fuller was baptised on 27 December 1627 in Waldron.
William
Fuller was born about 1628 and buried on 18 July 1641 in Waldron.
Edmund
Fuller was baptised on 28 April 1634 in Waldron.
Elizabeth
Fuller was baptised on 8 May 1636 in Waldron
