Richard FRENCH (1624-1667)

and Barbara HUMPFRY (1624-?)

Richard French and Barbara Humfry were my 9x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 11 April 1650 in Chiddingly, Sussex.

Richard French may have been baptised on 14 October 1624 in Heathfield, Sussex.  The baptism register records that his father was Jhon French, whilst the Bishop's Transcript says Thomas French.  John French married Elizabeth Waters on 26 September 1614 in Heathfield.  Richard may have been buried on 30 August 1667 in Heathfield, and his child was buried there on 5 September 1667.

Barbara Humpfry's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  As Barbara French of Heathfield, she may have married Thomas Stubberfield on 15 February 1669/70 in Dallington, Sussex.  Might she have been baptised on 10 September 1624 in East Grinstead, Sussex and have been the daughter of Thomas Humphray and Joane Lousse?

Richard French and Barbara Humpfry had 9 known children:

1. Mary French, my 8x Great Grandmother, was baptised on 16 February 1650/1 in Heathfield.  Only her father's name was recorded in the baptism register.  She married Stephen French in 1672.  (They have their own page.)

2. Elizabeth French was baptised on 17 April 1653 in Heathfield.  Only her father's name was recorded in the baptism register.

3. Thomas French was born on 1 March 1654/5 in Heathfield.  His birth was recorded in the baptism register, along with the name of his father.  He was buried in Heathfield on 24 March 1654/5.

4. Barbery French was born on 7 June 1656 in Heathfield.  Her birth and the name of her father was recorded in the baptism register.  Barbara probably married Edward Smith on 23 December 1680 in Heathfield.

5. Richard French was baptised on 1 April 1658 in Heathfield.  Only his father's name was recorded in the baptism register.  He was buried on 25 May 1658 in Heathfield.

6. John French was baptised on 17 April 1659 in Heathfield.  Only his father's name was recorded in the baptism register.

7. Catherine French was baptised on the 13th, sometime between 4 March and October 1661.  Only her father's name was recorded in the baptism register.  She may have married John Kingsmell by licence on 7 October 1684 at All Saints in Lewes, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued on the same day and recorded that she was a spinster and they were both of Heathfield.

8. Thomas French was baptised on 6 March 1663/4 in Heathfield.  Did he marry Sarah Bennett by banns on 19 April 1688 in Herstmonceaux, Sussex?

9. Richard French was baptised on 14 February 1665/6 in Heathfield.

Richard Freenche married Margery Giles on 4 February 1590/1 in Heathfield.  (I wonder if that should have been John French?)

John French and Elizabeth Waters married on 14 May 1614 in Heathfield.

Elizabeth Frenche was baptised on 20 April 1615 in Heathfield, the daughter of John Frenche.

El----- French was baptised on 23 March 1616/7 in Heathfield, the daughter of John French the collier.

John French was baptised on 9 May 1619 in Heathfield, the son of John French, junior.

William French was baptised on 31 September 1621 in Heathfield, the son of Jhon French.

Margerie wife of John French was buried on 5 November 1622 in Heathfield.

Als French was baptised on 1 January 1625/6 in Heathfield, the daughter of Richard French.

Elizabeth or Priscilla French was baptised on 25 November 1627 in Heathfield the daughter of John French.

John French was baptised on 15 February 1627/8 in Heathfield, the son of Richard French.

John son of Richarde French was buried on 17 February 1627/8 in Heathfield.

Daniell French was baptised on 14 November 1630 in Heathfield, the son of Jhon French.

Jane French was baptised on 25 December 1630 in Heathfield, the daughter of Richard French.

Jhon French was buried on 15 February 1631/2 in Heathfield.

Jone daughter of Richard French was buried on 29 April 1632 in Heathfield.

Catherne French was baptised on 14 June 1635 in Heathfield, the daughter of Richard French.

Richard French was baptised on 24 March 1638/9 in Heathfield, the son of Richard French.

Richard son of Richard French was buried on 17 March 1640/1 in Heathfield.

Joane French married John Sinderford on 26 September 1643 in Heathfield.

Susan wife of Richard French was buried on 4 January 1643/4 in Heathfield.

Richard French married Rachel Morries on 4 February 1644/5 in Warbleton, Sussex.  He was then a bachelor of Warbleton and she a spinster of Heathfield.

John French was baptised on 23 July 1648 in Heathfield, the son of Thomas French.

Elizabeth French married Thomas Soale on 4 January 1652/3 in Heathfield.

Katherne daughter of Richard French was buried in Heathfield on 31 July 1656.

Thomas French married Luce Willcoke on 18 February 1657/8 in Heathfield.

Richard French was buried on 24 August 1659 in Heathfield.

Daniel French married Ann Turner on 23 June 1663 in Heathfield.  They were both of Brightling.

Thomas French was baptised on 21 August 1664 in Heathfield, the son of Daniel French.

The wife of Thomas French was buried on 15 September 1666 in Heathfield.

Thomas French married Elianor Sevenock on 20 November 1666 in Heathfield.

Elizabeth French was baptised on 26 November 1667 in Heathfield, the daughter of Thomas French.

Thomas French was baptised on 23 October 1669 in Heathfield, the son of Thomas French and Eleanor his wife.

Daniel French was baptised on 5 March 1670/1 in Heathfield, the son of Thomas French by Ellen his wife.

Priscilla French was baptised on 29 October 1672 in Heathfield, the daughter of Thomas French by Eleanor his wife.

Richard French married Alice Mepham on 25 August 1681 in Heathfield.  He was of Chiddingly and she of Heathfield.
