John FREEMAN (c1680-?)

and Sarah NEWMAN (1685-?)

 

John Freeman and Sarah Newman married on 8 February 1704/5 in Portslade, Sussex.  He was then of Old Shoreham and she of Portslade.

John Freeman's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He may have been the son of Abraham Freeman and Elizabeth Holt who had married on 8 August 1675 in Portslade.  He probably died between 1717 and 1725.

Sarah Newman's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  As a widow of Old Shoreham, Sarah Freeman married Robert Fisher by licence on 2 January 1725/6 in Old Shoreham.  Their marriage licence was issued on the 26 December 1725 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, which also recorded that Robert was a husbandman of Old Shoreham.

 

John Freeman and Sarah Newman had 4 known children:

  1. Elizabeth Freeman was baptised on 8 April 1706 in Old Shoreham.  She may have married John Burrell on 30 September 1725 in Southwick, Sussex.  They were both then of Old Shoreham.

  2. Abraham Freeman was baptised on 3 October 1708 in Old Shoreham.

  3. Mary Freeman was baptised on Sunday 24 January 1713/4 in Old Shoreham.  She may have married John Swift junior of Lancing on 2 May 1732 in Sompting.  John may have been baptised on 7 February 1704/5 in Lancing and have been the son of John Swift.

  4. Ann Freeman was baptised on Sunday 19 May 1717 in Old Shoreham.  She may have married Thomas Frost or Thomas Swift on 19 February 1737/8 in Lancing, Sussex.
