When the 1851 census was recorded the family were living at 8 Nelson Row,
Brighton. Stephen was then a 32 year old labourer and Caroline was
said to be 25.
Stephen gave his place of birth as Stanmer.
In 1861 the family were living at
10 Brunswick Court in Brighton. Stephen was then a bricklayer's
labourer and Caroline a nurse.
Caroline was a 42 year old widow and
charwoman when the 1871 census was recorded, and she was living with her
children at 24 Apollo Terrace in Brighton.
In 1881 Caroline was a 50
year old washerwoman living at 10 Ivory Buildings in Brighton, along with
son John and daughter Emily.

John Ford
was baptised on 15 October 1848 at St. Nicholas, Brighton. He was 3 years old in 1851. In
1861 he was 12 years old and living at home with his parents. He was a
22 year old butcher in 1871 and living with his mother and siblings.

Jane Ford
was baptised on 4 May 1851 in Brighton. She was 2 months old when the
1851 census was recorded. In 1861 she was a 10 year old scholar.
She was a 20 year old ironer in 1871, and she was living at home.

Stephen Ford
was born in the third quarter of 1853 in Brighton. He was an 8 year old scholar in 1861.
In 1871 he was a 17 year old labourer living at home.

Caroline Ford
was baptised on 23 November 1855 at St. Nicholas, Brighton. The death
of a Caroline Ford was registered in the first quarter
of 1856 in Brighton.

George Ford
was born in the fourth quarter of 1855 in Brighton (I assume he and
Caroline were twins). In 1861 he was a 5 year old scholar.
He was a 15 year old labourer in 1871.
George married twice, firstly to Ellen Bassett in the
second quarter of 1878 in Brighton.
Ellen may have been baptised on 27 June 1859 at St. Nicholas, Brighton,
and was the daughter of George Bassett and Jane
Ann Barnard. The death of a 27 year old Ellen
Foord was registered in the third quarter of 1883 in the
Brighton registration district.
In 1881 the couple and their 2 children were living at 6 Hanover Street,
Brighton. George was then a 26 year old labourer and Ellen was 24.
They were sharing the property with 56 year old widow and laundress,
Louisa Grinyer and 81 year old widow Jane Watts.
George and Ellen had 2 known (to me) children:

Jane Bassett was baptised on 27 May 1878 at St. Peters,
Brighton, the daughter of Ellen Bassett.
The 1881 census records that Jane Ford was
a 3 year old scholar. She was a 14 year old scholar in 1891
and living at home with her father and step-mother.

George Ford was born in 1880 in Brighton. At the time
of the 1881 census he was 6 months old. He was a 10 year old
scholar in 1891.
George next
married Kate Solman in the third quarter of 1887 in the
Steyning registration district.
Kate was born about 1855 in Suffolk, at what looks like Eddwardston in
the 1891 census.
When the 1891 census was recorded the couple were living at 92
Livingstone Road in Hove, along with their 2 children and George's 2
children from his previous marriage. George was then a 35 year old
bricklayer's labourer and Kate was 36 years old and doing laundry work.
They were sharing the property with 32 year old Albert Davey
and his 33 year old wife Sarah A. Davey.
George and Kate had the following known (to me) children:

Kate Emily Ford was born in the third
quarter of 1888 in Hove. She was 2 years old in 1891.

Lilian Ford was born in 1890 in Hove. At the time of
the 1891 census she was 8 months old.

Caroline
Ford was born about 1858 in Brighton. She was 3 years old in
1861. In 1871 she was 14 years old. (I have not found a
birth registration for her in Brighton at FreeBMD.)

Ann Ford
was baptised on 21 October 1860 at St. Nicholas, Brighton. The birth
of an Annie Ford was registered in the fourth quarter
of 1860 in Brighton. When the
1861 census was recorded she was 7 months old. She was 12 years old in
1871.

John Ford
was born in the third quarter of 1863 in Brighton. He was 8 years old in 1871.
In 1881 he was a 17 year old coal boy.
John married
Eliza Fanny Graimes in the second quarter of 1884 in the
Steyning registration district.
Eliza Fanny Graham was baptised on 2 October 1864 in Brighton and was the daughter of
James
Graimes and Eliza Harman (they had married on 22 May 1864 in
Brighton). In 1871, Eliza was 7
years old and living with her parents, 2 younger brothers and her maternal
grandmother, Sarah Harmond who was a 65 year old charwoman. Her
father was then a stableman. (James Henry Graham was
baptised on 3 April 1842 in Brighton, and was the son of Henry
Graham and Mary.)
When the 1891 census was recorded the couple and their 3 sons were living at
78 Livingstone Road, Hove. John was then a labourer. His younger
sister was also part of his household. They were sharing the property
with 52 year old widower, James Graimes who was a fly proprietor, and
his 3 children.
In
1901, the couple and their 7 children were still at 78 Livingstone Road,
and 60 year old James Graimes was the head of the
household.

was born in the second quarter of 1884 in Hove. He was a 7 year old scholar in 1891.
In 1901 he was a 16 year old labourer living at home. He married
Annie Louisa Green in the second quarter of 1910 in
the Steyning registration district.

was born about 1886/7 in Hove. In 1891 he was a 5 year old scholar.
He was a 14 year old errand boy in 1901. Might his birth have been
registered as Stanley William Ford in the second
quarter of 1886 in Brighton?

was born in the fourth quarter of 1889 in Hove. He was 2 years old
when the 1891 census was recorded. In 1901 he was 11 years old.

Ford was born in the fourth quarter of 1893 in Hove. The 1901
census records that she was 6 year old Eliza Ford.

1901 she was 5 years old.

was born in the third quarter of 1897 in Hove. She was 3 years old in
1901.

Charles Ford
was born in in the first quarter of 1866 in Brighton. In 1871 he was 5 years old.
Charles married Charlotte Wisdom in the third quarter
of 1887 in the Steyning registration district.
Charlotte was baptised on 4 February 1866 at St. Nicholas, Brighton and
was the daughter of Jonathan Warner Wisdom (c1835-?)
and Selina Smith (c1834-?). When the 1871 census
was recorded she was a 5 year old scholar and living with her parents
and elder siblings at 24 Lavender Street in Brighton. Her father
was then a barber.
When the 1891 census was recorded the couple were both 25 year old
visitors in the home of 30 year old Jim Barnet at 86
Clarendon Road, Hove. Also with them was their young daughter.
Charles and Charlotte had the following known (to me) child:

years old in 1891.
