John FINCH (1712-1795)

and Sarah KING (1713-1753)

 

St. Mary's, Billingshurst, from:  http://wsgfl.westsussex.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/school-list/all-establishments---by-major-town/billingshurst/John Finch and Sarah King were my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 25 July 1732 at the parish church of St. Marys in Billingshurst, Sussex.  He was then of Slinfold and she of Billingshurst.

John Finch was baptised on 11 March 1711/2 in Slinfold, Sussex.  He was the son of William Finch (1685-1765) and Elizabeth Puttock (1688-1743).    John may have been buried on 22 May 1795 in Slinfold.

Sarah King was baptised on 4 March 1712/3 in Billingshurst.  She was the daughter of Thomas King (1669-1718) and Jane Burchell (1677-?).  She may have been buried as the wife of John Finch on 22 December 1753 in Slinfold.

 

John Finch and Sarah King had 8 known children:

  1. Sarah Finch was baptised on 9 July 1734 in Rudgwick, Sussex.  She was buried on 2 August 1736 in Slinfold and the burial register noted that she was the daughter of John and Sarah.

  2. Martha Finch was baptised on 5 April 1736 in Slinfold.

    Martha married Daniel Cumper by banns on 5 January 1757 in Rudgwick.  She was then of Rudgwick and he of Billingshurst.

  3. Thomas Finch was baptised on 19 February 1736/7 in Slinfold.  He may have been buried on 29 December 1799 in Slaugham.

  4. Edward Finch was baptised on 11 November 1739 in Slinfold.

  5. 5 99 William Finch, my 5x Great Grandfather, was baptised in January 1740/1 in Slinfold.  He married Sarah Stedman in 1765.  (They have their own page.)

  6. Mary Finch was baptised on 22 April 1744 in Slinfold.

    Mary may have married Thomas Tayler on 21 April 1766 in Horsham, Sussex.  He was a carpenter and they were both of Horsham.

  7. James Finch was baptised on 22 December 1745 in Slinfold.

    James married Elizabeth Still on 1 May 1770 in Slaugham.  They were both of Slaugham and both made their X marks.  The witnesses were William Jupp and Charles Colven.  The banns were published at Slaugham on 15, 22 and 29 April 1770.

    James and Elizabeth had 3 known children:

    1. James Finch was baptised on 28 November 1772 in Slaugham.

    2. Thomas Finch was baptised on 4 December 1774 in Slaugham.  He may have married Ann Wood by licence on 30 April 1796 in Slaugham.  At the time he was a bachelor of Ifield and she a spinster of Slaugham.

    3. Henry Finch was baptised on 26 May 1777 in Slaugham and buried there on 6 July 1795.

  8. Charles Finch was baptised on 6 November 1748 in Slinfold.
