John FINCH (1653-1709)

and Sarah RICHARDSON (c1655-?)

 

John Finch and Sarah Richardson were my 8x Great Grandparents.  They married on 5 June 1681 in Wisborough Green, Sussex.  They were both then of Slinfold, Sussex.

John Finch was born on 5 October 1653 and baptised on 16 October 1653 in Rusper, Sussex.  The baptism register recorded that his father was of Horsham, Sussex.  He was the son of John Finch (1628-?) and Mary Bishop.  He was buried on 2 October 1709 in Slinfold and it was noted in the burial register that he was a carpenter.  John was also described as a carpenter in the burial register when his son was buried in 1685.

Sarah Richardson’s date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might she have been baptised on 27 February 1654/5 in Lyminster, Sussex, the daughter of Thomas Richardson and Sarah?

 

John Finch and Sarah Richardson had 5 known children:

  1. Sarah Finch was baptised on 27 January 1681/2 in Slinfold.

  2. John Finch was baptised on 23 May 1683 in Slinfold and buried there on 29 November 1685.

  3. William Finch, my 7x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 3 April 1685 in Slinfold.  He married Elizabeth Puttock in 1710.  (They have their own page.)

  4. Thomas Finch was baptised privately as soon as he was born, as he was in great danger of death, on 12 October 1686 in Slinfold.  He was taken to the church on 6 November 1686 and had the rest of churches rights performed.

    A marriage licence was issued on 12 October 1714 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester in the names of Thomas Finch a bachelor of Slinfold and Elizabeth Greenfield a spinster of West Chiltington.  Surety for the licence was provided by Thomas himself and Thomas Penfold a husbandman of Selsey.  On 6 October 1709 a Thomas Finch married Elizabeth Daughtry in Yapton, Sussex.

  5. John Finch was baptised on 28 July 1689 in Slinfold.
