John FINCH (1628-?)

and Marie BISHOP (?-?)

 

John Finch and Marie Bishop were my 9x Great Grandparents.  They married on 1 November 1652 in Rusper, Sussex.

John Finch's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  In 1653 the Rusper baptism register noted that he was of Horsham.  Might he have been baptised on 28 July 1628 in Worth, Sussex, and have been the son of John Finche and Katherine Cheeseman?  In 1663, John Finch took out an 11 year lease on the watermill and mill house called Hedgecourt Mill in Worth.  John was still the miller at Hedgecourt in March 1669 and in February 1672 he was referred to as a yeoman on Worth.  Question:  was the John in Rusper the same one who was baptised in Worth and then living there in the 1660's and 1670's?

Marie Bishop’s date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

 

John Finch and Mary Bishop had 2 known children:

  1. John Finch, my 8x Great Grandfather, was born on 5 October 1653 and baptised on 16 October 1653 in Rusper, Sussex.  He married Sarah Richardson in 1681.  (They have their own page.)

  2. William Finch was born on 11 January 1655/6 and baptised on 20 January 1655/6 in Rusper.
