Churchman FIELD (c1813-1893)

and Harriet FIELD (1831-?)

 

Churchman Field married Harriet Field on 14 April 1849 at St. Nicholas, Brighton.  Their fathers were named as Churchman Field and William Field.

Churchman Field was baptised on 4 July 1813 in Cuckfield, Sussex.  He was the son of Churchman Field (1781-1865) and Sarah Penfold (1788-1849).  The 1841 census noted that he was 25 years old and living with his parents at Bolney House in Bolney, Sussex.  Churchman died aged 80 years and his death was registered in the first quarter of 1893 in the Cuckfield registration district.

Harriet Field may have been born on 22 December 1831 in Slaugham and have been the daughter of William Field and Sarah Orton.

When the 1851 census was recorded the couple and young daughter were living at Hill House Cottage in Bolney.  Churchman was a 38 year old agricultural labourer and Harriett was 19.  He said he was born in Cuckfield and she in Slaugham.

The 1861 census recorded the the couple were living at Sticklands in Bolney.  Churchman was a 47 year old agricultural labourer and Harriet was 32.  He was born in Cuckfield and she in Slaugham.  Also with them were 4 children (Elizabeth, Ann, Sarah and Alfred), and 36 year old unmarried gardener Aaron Bedwin.

 

Churchman Field and Harriet Field had 7 known children:

  1. Elizabeth Harriet Field was baptised on 1 December 1850 in Bolney.  The baptism register noted that he father was a labourer from Stairbridge Lane, Bolney.  At the time of the 1851 census she was 4 months old.  She was 11 years old in 1861.

  2. Ann Field was baptised on 31 October 1852 in Bolney.  The baptism register noted that her father was a carrier from Hill House Cottage in Bolney.  She was 8 years old in 1861.

  3. Sarah Field was baptised on 22 July 1855 in Bolney.  The baptism register noted that her father was a labourer from Beggars Bush in Bolney.  She was 6 years old in 1861.

  4. Alfred Field was baptised on 29 May 1859 in Bolney.  The baptism register noted that his father was a labourer from Beggars Bush in Bolney.  He was 2 years old in 1861.

  5. Henrietta Field was baptised on 4 August 1861 in Bolney.  The baptism register noted that her father was a bailiff.

  6. Churchman Field was baptised on 39 January 1861 in Bolney.  The baptism register noted that his father was a gardener.  He may have died aged 81 years and his death registered in the fourth quarter of 1946 in the Cuckfield registration district.

  7. Harry Field was baptised on 31 December 1866 in Bolney.  The baptism register noted that his father was a gardener.
