Richard FAIRS
(c1715-1788)
and Mary HAYBITTLE (1716-1800)

Richard Fairs and Mary Haybittle married
by banns on 6 May 1740 in West Grinstead, Sussex. They were both then
of West Grinstead. (They were not my direct ancestors.)
Richard Fairs date and place of birth/baptism
are unknown, to me. He may have been buried on 29 April 1788 in West
Grinstead. Might he have been baptised on 29 August 1706 in
Horsham, Sussex and have been the son of Thomas Fayers and
Sarah Wood?
Mary Haybittle was baptised on 2 November 1716 in
Thakeham, Sussex. She was the daughter of Thomas Haybittle
and Mary Penfold. The West Grinstead registers
record that a Widow Fairs was buried on 7 February 1800. Mary's
brother Thomas Haybittle (1713-?) married Jane
Croucher on 19 September 1738, and sister Ann Haybittle
(1712-?) married William Bottin on 10 September 1734,
both in West Grinstead. There may have been another sister,
Susan Heybittle who married John Barnet on 31
March 1746 in West Grinstead.
Richard Fairs
and Mary Haybittle had 4 known children:
-
John Fairs was baptised on 19 May 1744 in West Grinstead and
buried there on 12 April 1758.
-
Richard Fairs was baptised on 6 September 1749 in West
Grinstead. Did he marry
Elizabeth Woolvin
in 1788?
-
Susanna Fairs was baptised on 7 October 1751 in West
Grinstead.
-
Charles Fairs was baptised on 7 February 1754 in West
Grinstead. He married
Sarah Walker in 1777.
(They have their own page.)
