John ETHERIDGE (1708-1777)

and Hannah HARRADEN (?-1738)

and Jane HAYLOR (1718-1777)

John Etheridge and Jane Haylor may have been my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their possible place in my pedigree chart.)  They married by licence on 13 May 1739 in Billingshurst, Sussex.  At the time they were both said to be of Billingshurst.  Their marriage licence was issued on 13 September 1739 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester, which recorded that he was a widower and carpenter of Thakeham and she a spinster of Thakeham.  Surety for the licence was provided by John himself and Edward Thompson a victualler of Chichester.  John had previously married Hannah Harriden by licence on 8 October 1734 in Ashington, Sussex.  They were both then of Thakeham.  Their marriage licence was issued on 7 October 1734 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester, which recorded that he was a bachelor and carpenter of Thakeham, whilst she was a spinster of Thakeham.  Surety for the licence was provided by John himself and John Costellow of Chichester.

John Etheridge was baptised on 22 November 1708 in Thakeham, Sussex.  He was the son of Daniel Etheridge (1664-1749) and Mary Greenfield.  John was buried in Billingshurst on 10 November 1777.

Hannah Harraden was the daughter of Richard Harraden and Elizabeth.  She was buried on 14 April 1738 in Thakeham.

Jane Haylor was baptised on 11 May 1718 in Billingshurst, Sussex.  She was the only child and daughter of Daniel Haylor (c1687-1753) and Eleanor Jupp (?-1769).  She was mentioned in her father's 1748 will as Jane Etheridge and she was the sole executrix of his estate.  She inherited her father's messuage/tenement, garden, orchard and premises at Rosar Gate (Rosier Gate on today's map).  Jane only survived her husband by a month and was buried in Billingshurst on 15 December 1777.  It was noted in the burial register that she was a widow.
