Daniel Etheridge and Mary Greenfield may have been my 7x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their possible place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 18 May 1697 in West Chiltington, Sussex.  As Daniel Edarige he had previously married Mary Slater on 13 May 1686 in Sullington, Sussex.

Daniel Etheridge was born in 1664 in Thakeham, Sussex.  He was the son of Richard Etheridge and Alice Parsons (c1635-1692).  He was buried on 26 June 1749 in Thakeham.

Mary Slater's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Presumably, she died between 1692 and 1697.

Mary Greenfield's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might she have been baptised on 6 August 1675 in West Chiltington and have been the daughter of John Grinfield?  She was buried on 19 January 1754 in Thakeham.

Daniel Etheridge and Mary Slater had 3 known children:

1. Mary Etheridge was baptised on 11 July 1687 in Thakeham.  She was buried in Thakeham in 1756.

   Mary married Andrew Whittington on 13 May 1716 in West Chiltington, Sussex.

   Andrew was baptised on 16 February 1689 in Pulborough and was the son of Andrew Whittington and Elizabeth Paice.

   Andrew and Mary had the following known children:

   1. Elizabeth Whittington was baptised on 11 August 1717 in Thakeham.

   2. Mary Whittington was baptised on 2 June 1720 in Thakeham.

   3. John Whittington was baptised on 3 March 1722 in Thakeham.

   4. Richard Whittington was baptised on 9 September 1728 in Thakeham.

      Richard married Elizabeth Riddall on 17 May 1753 in Thakeham.

      Elizabeth was baptised on 13 June 1731 in Hardham, Sussex and was the daughter of Thomas Riddall and Elizabeth Wase.  Elizabeth was buried on 2 March 1809 in Thakeham.

      Richard and Elizabeth had the following known child:

      1. Richard Whittington was baptised on 8 March 1753 in Thakeham.

      2. Edward Whittington was baptised on 16 November 1755 in Warminghurst, Sussex.  He was buried on 21 January 1821 in Thakeham.  Edward married Elizabeth Grant on 29 June 1778 in Thakeham.  Elizabeth was born about 1759 and was buried on 3 August 1809 in Thakeham.

      3. Elizabeth Whittington was baptised on 9 October 1757 in Thakeham.

      4. James Whittington was baptised on 24 November 1759 in Thakeham.

      5. Mary Whittington was baptised on 13 March 1763 in Thakeham.

      6. John Whittington was baptised on 12 May 1765 in Thakeham.

      7. Henry Whittington was baptised on 7 May 1769 in Thakeham.

2. Sarah Etheridge was baptised on 25 May 1689 in Thakeham.  She may have married John Brooker on 1 May 1726 in Thakeham.  John may have been baptised on 21 October 1686 in Billingshurst and have been the son of Simon Brooker.

3. Nicholas Etheridge was baptised on 10 October 1692 in Thakeham and buried there in 1695.

Daniel Etheridge and Mary Greenfield had 2 known children:

1. Daniel Etheridge was baptised on 16 November 1702 in Thakeham.  He was buried on 3 March 1751 in Thakeham.  He left a will dated 20 September 1737 in which he styled himself as Daniel Etheridge the younger of Thakeham.  It was proved on 5 March 1750/1 by his widow Eleanor.  In February 1729/30 he took possession of Slaters in Thakeham from William Outton of Thakeham and his wife Hannah.  He was then described as Daniel Etheridge, junior and he was a carpenter of Pulborough.

   Daniel married Eleanor Harwood by licence on 11 May 1736 in Thakeham.  Their marriage licence was issued on 10 May 1736 by the Archdeaconry of Chichester and recorded that Daniel was a bachelor and carpenter of Thakeham.  Eleanor was also of Thakeham.  Sponsorship of the licence was provided by Daniel himself and Thomas Woolven a Gent of Chichester.

   Eleanor may have been the daughter of John Harwood and Elizabeth Alderton.  As a widow she married William Pennatt on 10 October 1752 in Ashington, Sussex.  William was then of Thakeham.

2. John Etheridge, my possible 6x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 22 November 1708 in Thakeham.  He married Jane Haylor in 1739.  (They have their own page.)
