William ELLIOTT (c1794-1872)

and Sarah (c1803-1880)

William Elliott and Sarah married before or about 1820.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

William Elliott was born about 1794 in Mayfield or Wadhurst, Sussex.  The death of 79 year old William Elliott was registered in the fourth quarter of 1872 in the St. Olave, Southwark, London registration district.

Sarah was born about 1803/4 in Haslemere or Godalming, Surrey.  The death of 79 year old Sarah Elliott was registered in the third quarter of 1880 in the St. Olave, Southwark, London registration district.

At the time of the 1841 census the family were living in Neckinger Street, Bermondsey.  William was said to be a 47 year old cabinet maker and Sarah was 35.  Five of their children were at home on census night.

When the 1851 census was recorded the couple and 2 daughters were living at 1 Neckinger Street in Bermondsey.  William was then a 57 year old cabinet maker and gave his place of birth as Mayfield.  Sarah was 48 and said she was born in Haslemere.  Also with the family was 18 year old lodger and leather staker, Henry Day from Bethnal Green in Middlesex.

In 1861 William and Sarah were living in West Street, Bermondsey.  He was a 67 year old cabinet maker and said he was born in Wadhurst, whilst Sarah was 57 and said she was born in Godalming.  With the couple were 2 of their daughters.

The 1871 census records the couple were living at 88 West Street, Bermondsey.  William was a 70 year old carpenter and said he was born in Wadhurst.  Sarah was 68 and said she was born in Haslemere.  With them was their youngest daughter, and unmarried 32 year old lodger Thomas Davis.
