Alexander
ELLIOTT (1584-1660)
and Ann FERMER (1590-1623)
and Constance HEPDEN (1596-1633)

Alexander Elliott
and Constance
Hepden
were my 10x Great Grandparents.

to see their place in my pedigree chart.) They married on 2 April 1624
in Mayfield or Burwash, Sussex. Alexander had previously married
Ann Fermer
on 2 December 1613 in Mayfield, Sussex.
Alexander Elliott
was baptised on 3 January 1584/5 in
Burwash. He was the son of
John
Elliott (1545-1632). He
died in 1660. He was of Binelham in Mayfield.
Ann Fermer
was baptised on 24 June 1590. She was the
daughter of
William Fermer and
Elizabeth Scott.
I have a note that she was buried on 19 August 1623, but I’m not sure about
this date.
Constance Hepden
was baptised on 3 October 1596 in Burwash.
She was the daughter of
Goddard Hepden (c1550-1633) and
Ann
Frye (c1552-1641). She died in
1633 in Mayfield.
Alexander Elliott and Ann
Fermer had 3 known children:

Mary Elliott
was baptised on 6 November 1614 in
Mayfield. She married
Matthew Hartridge
on 1 April 1634 in Mayfield.

John Elliott
was baptised on 13 April 1617 in
Mayfield. He died in 1618.

Elizabeth Elliott
was baptised on 13 April 1617 in
Mayfield. She died in 1624.
Alexander Elliott and
Constance Hepden had 3 known children:

John Elliott, my 9x Great
Grandfather, was baptised on 6 March 1623/4 in Mayfield. He married
Ann
Barham in 1646. (They have
their own page.)

Alexander Elliott
was baptised on 16 October 1628 in
Mayfield. He died in 1675.
Alexander married
Mary Wilden
on 10 November 1650 in Laughton, Sussex.
Alexander and Mary had the following
children:

Hannah Elliott
was baptised on 24 June 1660 in
Mayfield.
Hannah married Nicholas Wood on
15 February 1680/1 in Burwash, Sussex. He was then of Mayfield.
They had at least 1 child:

Nicholas Wood married Elizabeth King on 16 April 1718 in
Hellingly, Sussex. They were both then of Hellingly. The also had at
least 1 child:

Nicholas Wood married Elizabeth Weston on 26 December
1749 in Hellingly, and they also had at least 1 child:

Nicholas Wood married Mary Dunk by Licence on 21
June 1777 in Hellingly. He was then a Butcher of Hellingly and
she of Chiddingly. Their marriage licence was issued on 19 June
1777 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes and recorded that Nicholas was
aged 24 and upwards and Mary a Spinster of Hellingly also aged 24
and upwards. Nicholas and Mary had at least 1 child:

James Wood married Ann Oxley
by Banns on 9 December 1798 in Heathfield, Sussex. He was then
described as a Pauper and she as the daughter of Richard
Oxley and Mary. They also had at least 1 child:

Jane Wood married Thomas Balcomb. He was the
son of
Thomas Balcomb and
Lucy Simmonds.

William Eliot
was baptised on 20 November 1666 in
Mayfield.

Ann Elliott
was baptised on 28 January 1667/8 in
Mayfield.

Anne Elliott
was baptised on 23 January 1668/9 in
Mayfield.
Alexander and Mary may also have been the
parents of
Alexander Elliott (c1653-1721) who
married
Mary Stickland (1655-1706)
in 1677. The couple did name a
daughter Constance. Mary was the daughter of my 9x Great
Grandparents
William Stickland (1618-1670)
and
Elizabeth Cripse (1626-1697).

Constance Elliott
born on 24 August 1631 in
Mayfield. She may have died in 1631.
