The Will of
Robert DENYER
(c1600-1657)

In the name of God Amen I Robert Denyer of Woolbeding in the Countie
of Sussex Brickmaker being sick of body but of good and perfec memory thanks
be to God doo make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in manor and
forme following first I give and bequeath my soul unto the hands of
Allmighty God trusting in the merritts of Jesus Christ to have free pardon
and forgiving of all my sinns My body to be buried in the Christian buriall
place of the parish of Stedham wheresoever it shall please God to call mee
Item I give to the parish Church of Stedham 2 s 6 d Item I give unto
Joice my now wife twenty pounds of lawfull English money to be paid her
within three months next after my decease Item I give unto Joice my
now wife fifteen pounds more of currant English money to be paid her within
one yeare and a halfe next after my decease If in case shee happen to be
with child after my decease my Will is that the said sume of fifteen pounds
so given unto Jone my said wife shall remaine in the hands of my
executor *** paying the *** *** of unto my said wife yearlie untill the
child which shee shall go with all my*** to the age of one and twenty years
if it so happen Then the said fifteen pounds to be paid to the said child
Item my Will is that Joice my now wife shall have and enjoy all such
moneys as was hers before I was married unto her for her own use and
disposing Item I give unto Elizabeth my daughter three*** pounds of
lawfull English money of England to be paid when she shall come to the age
of one and twenty years if shee *** long live but if shee dies before shee
come of Age then the said summe of three*** pounds to remain with my
executors here after named the use of this money to help bring up the said
child Item I give unto Elizabeth my said daughter all the wearing
apparell that was her mothers Item I do make and ordaine Robert Denier
my sonne my whole executor of this my last Will and testament And I doe give
hime my now dwelling house wherein I now dwell in Woolbeding with all the
outhouses buildings land and app*** thereto belonging whatsoever to hem and
his heirs my Will intent and meaning is that Robert Denyer and
Elizabeth Denyer my two children do both dye without issue before they
come to the Age of one and twenty years that they my Overseers hereafter
named shall have full power to sell the said dwelling house with all
outhouses buildings lands and appurt*** at the best advantage they can and
the money so made and raised thereof to be equally divided between the
brothers and sisters of me that shall then living and the brothers and
sisters of Elizabeth my former wife that shall be then living And my
will is that if Joice my wife be then living when the said land is
sold shee to have a good share as any other my *** and Interst if the said
sume of twenty pounds first herein given to Joyce my wife is in ***
and to *** of all thirds *** and *** out of my house and land which shee may
hereafter claim or demand Item I doe appoint Robert Frye of Minsted
and Richard Bound of Minsted both within the parish of Stedham to be
my Overseers of this my last Will and Testament And I give them for their
paines in so doing tenne shillings a peice In witness whereof I have
hereunto sett my hand and seal the **enth day of March in the yeare of our
Lord God one thousand six hundred fiftie and six Robert Denyer
sealed and signed in the presence of John **ith ~ Robert Frye
