Robert DADSWELL (1681-1710)

and Mary OVENDEN (1679-?)

Robert Dadswell and Mary Ovenden married by licence on 16 May 1706 in Ringmer, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued on 13 May 1706 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, which mentioned Robert was a cordwainer and they were both of Rotherfield, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Robert Dodswell was baptised on 26 November 1681 in Rotherfield, Sussex.  He was the son 5 272 Edward Dodswell (1659-1736) and 5 272 Elizabeth Elliott (1649-1735).  Robert was buried on 29 June 1710 in Rotherfield.  He left a will dated 19 June 1710 which was proved at Lewes on 4 July 1710.

Mary Ovenden was baptised on 8 February 1679 in Rotherfield. Sussex.  She was the daughter of John Ovenden and Elizabeth Everest.

After Robert's death, widow Mary Dodswell married Joseph Moon by licence on 12 May 1712 in Framfield, Sussex.  They were both then of Rotherfield.  Joseph was a weaver.  He was baptised on 23 January 1678/9 in Mayfield, Sussex and was the son of Joseph Moon and Jane Turner.

Robert Dadswell and Mary Ovenden had 2 known children:

  1. Mary Dodswell was baptised on 13 March 1706/7 in Rotherfield.  She married William Kitchenham in 1743.  (They have their own page.)

  2. Elizabeth Dodswell was baptised on 13 January 1708/9 in Rotherfield.  In 1717 her Grandfather was ordered in the Quarter Sessions to "maintain and keep her".

As Elizabeth Godswell she married John Berry on 7 April 1732 in Ringmer, Sussex.

John was baptised on 16 July 1686 in Glynde, Sussex and was the son of John Berry and Elizabeth Bannister.  John was a wheelwright of Ringmer.

John and Elizabeth had 3 known children:

    1. Elizabeth Berry was baptised on 22 February 1732/3 in Ringmer.

    2. Robert Berry was baptised on 3 April 1735 in Ringmer.
