Robert DOUDESWELL (1606-1676)

and Ann HOADLEY (c1610-1656)

and Mary AYNSCOMBE (1640-1663)

 

Robert Doudeswell and Mary Aynscombe were my 9x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 4 April 1658 in Rotherfield, Sussex.  Robert had previously married to Ann Hodley on 13 October 1631 in Rotherfield.

Robert Doudeswell was baptised on 22 February 1605/6 in Rotherfield.  He was the son of 5 274 Robert Doudeswell (c1560-1636) and 5 274 Elizabeth (?-1610).  He died on 9 September and was buried on 11 September 1676 in Rotherfield.  His will was dated 27 January 1675 and proved on 11 October 1676, at which time he was described as Robert Dadswell a Yeoman of Rotherfield.  He left legacies to his daughters Anne and Mary and Anne's children.  His olnly son, Edward, inherited his properties in Rotherfield.

Ann Hoadley’s date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She was buried on 11 April 1656 in Rotherfield.

Mary Aynscombe may have been baptised on 18 August 1633 in Rotherfield and have been the daughter of Robert Aynscombe.  Or she may have been baptised in Rotherfield on 11 June 1640 and have been the daughter of Edward Aynscombe (1608-?) and Hannah Stace.  Given that she named her eldest son Edward, I am inclined to think she was born in 1640.  She was buried on 10 April 1663 in Rotherfield.

 

Robert Doudeswell and Ann Hodley had 4 known children:

  1. An unbaptised child was buried on 15 Jul 1632 in Rotherfield.

  2. Robert Dodeswell was baptised on 26 April 1635 in Rotherfield and buried there on 10 January 1637.

  3. Henry Dodeswell was baptised on 15 October 1637 in Rotherfield and buried there on 29 July 1639.

  4. Anne Dodeswell was baptised on 15 September 1639 in Rotherfield.  She died in East Grinstead and was buried in Rotherfield in about 1715.

    Ann married John Wickersham, a farmer of Mayfield, in 1660.

    John and Anne had 6 known children:

    1. John Wickersham

    2. Thomas Wickersham

    3. Robert Wickersham

    4. Herbert Wickersham

    5. Edward Wickersham

    6. Elizabeth Wickersham

 

Robert Doudeswell and Mary Aynscombe had 2 known children:

  1. Edward Dodswell, my 8x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 6 June 1659 in Rotherfield.  He married Elizabeth Elliott in 1677.  (They have their own page.)

  2. Mary Dodswell was baptised on 3 April 1661 in Rotherfield.  She was buried on 16 August 1718 in Rotherfield.

    Mary married John Cripps on 8 July 1678 in Wadhurst, Sussex, as John Chrippes and Mary Dodswell.

    They had 2 known children:

    1. Elizabeth Cripps

    2. John Cripps
