David DADSWELL (1723-1803)

and Ann OAKILL (1731-1800)

 

David Dadswell and Ann Oakill were my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married by licence on 10 September 1747 in Withyham, Sussex.  He was then of Rotherfield and she of Withyham.

David Dadswell was baptised on 5 March 1722/3 in Rotherfield, Sussex.  He was the son of 5 271 Edward Dodswell (1680-1762) and 5 271 Elizabeth (?-1742).  He died on 2 April and was buried on 5 April 1803 in Rotherfield. 5 223

Ann Oakhill was baptised on 31 March 1731 in Sevenoaks, Kent.  She was the daughter of William Oakill (c1700-1785) and Jane.  She died on 25 June and was buried on 30 June 1800 in Rotherfield. 

 

David Dadswell and Ann Oakhill had 9 known children:

  1. Jane Dadswell was baptised on 3/13 July 1748 in Rotherfield.  She died on 20 June 1819 in Rotherfield.

    Jane married Henry Chalkin by licence on 9 December 1793 in Rotherfield.  Their licence was issued on 3 December 1793 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, which recorded that Jane was a spinster of Rotherfield and Henry a bachelor and cordwainer of Frant, Sussex.

  2. Edward Okill Dadswell was baptised on 2 December 1750 in Rotherfield.  He died on 10 February 1832 in Rotherfield.  He was a Rotherfield Churchwarden in 1797.

    Edward married Elizabeth Taylor by licence on 18 July 1786 in Rotherfield.  Their marriage licence was issued by the Archdeaconry of Lewes on 15 July 1786 and recorded that Edward was a bachelor and schoolmaster of Rotherfield aged 30 years and upwards.  Elizabeth was a spinster of Rotherfield aged 20 years and upwards.  She married with the consent of Elizabeth Taylor, widow.

    Elizabeth was born about 1764 and died on 9 February 1841 in Rotherfield.

    Edward and Elizabeth had 11 known children:

    1. Elizabeth Dadswell

    2. Ann Dadswell was born about 1788.  Ann married Benjamin Tompsett by licence on 30 December 1808 in Rotherfield.  Their marriage licence was issude on 1 December 1808 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes.  It recorded that Ann was a spinster aged 20 years and upwards and married with the consent of Edward Okill Dadswell.  Benjamin was a bachelor aged 21 years and upwards and was a gent of Mayfield.

    3. Sarah Dadswell was baptised on 8 August 1791 in Rotherfield.

    4. Thomas Dadswell

    5. Edward Okill Dadswell married Mary Carter by banns on 15 January 1820 at St. Michael in Lewes.  He was then a bachelor and she a spinster and they were both of the parish of St. Michaels.

    6. David Taylor Dadswell was baptised on 2 February 1800 in Rotherfield.  He died on 23 June and was buried on 26 June 1872 in Rotherfield.

      David married Harriet Wickens by banns on 5 January 1820 at St. John Southover in Lewes.

      Harriet was born about 1801 and was the daughter of Joseph Wickens and Margaret Moon.

      David and Harriet had the following children:

      1. Margaret Elizabeth Dadswell was born on 7 March 1820 and baptised on 23 July 1820 in Rotherfield.  She married Obediah Corke on 12 April 1837 in Rotherfield.

      2. Edward Okill Dadswell was baptised on 15 March 1822 in Rotherfield.

      3. David Taylor Dadswell was born or baptised on 22 March 1825 in Rotherfield.  He married Mary Ann.

      4. Harriet Ann Dadswell was baptised on 7 July 1833 in Rotherfield.

    10. Elizabeth Dadswell was baptised on 22 August 1807 in Rotherfield.

  3. David Dadswell was baptised on 24 December 1752 in Rotherfield.

  4. Hannah Dadswell was baptised on 6 April 1755 in Rotherfield.  She died there on 10 January 1823.

  5. Robert Dadswell, my 5x Great Grandfather, was baptised on 1 January 1757 in Rotherfield.  He married Mary Bridger, widow (nee Brooker), in 1782.  (They have their own page.)

  6. James Dadswell was baptised on 16 August 1761 in Rotherfield.

    James married Mary Brooker by banns on 13 April 1787 in Rotherfield.  They were both then of Rotherfield.  A witness to their marriage was Nicholas Dadswell.

    Mary was baptised on 3 November 1765 in Framfield, Sussex and was the daughter of Michael Brooker (1716-1805) and Mary.  Under the terms of her father's will she received one pound.

    James and Mary had 7 known children:

    1. Thomas Dadswell was baptised on 25 June 1786 in Rotherfield.  He was a stonemason  He married Hannah.

    2. David Dadswell was baptised on 9 March 1788 in Rotherfield.

    3. William Dadswell was baptised on 3 April 1791 in Rotherfield.  He was a stonemason.  Did he marry Hannah Colbran on 20 September 1818 in Buxted?

    4. Sarah Dadswell was baptised on 24 Febraury 1793 in Rotherfield.

    5. James Dadswell was baptised on 7 February 1796 in Rotherfield.

    6. Edward Dadswell was baptised on 9 December 1798 in Rotherfield.

    7. Robert Dadswell was baptised on 17 December 1802 in Rotherfield.

  7. Ann Dadswell was baptised on 29 April 1764 in Rotherfield.

  8. Nicholas Dadswell was baptised on 5 April 1766 in Rotherfield.

    Nicholas married Elizabeth Campfield by banns on 5 October 1791 in Rotherfield.  They were both then of Rotherfield.

    Nicholas and Elizabeth had 3 known children:

    1. David Dadswell

    2. James Dadswell

    3. Elizabeth Dadswell

  9. Elizabeth Dadswell was baptised on 15 February 1767 in Rotherfield.
