The Will of
Mary COURTHOPE
(?-1607)

In the name of God Amen The Thirteenth day of October in the yeare of our
Lord God One Thousand Six hundred and Seven and in the yeare of the raigne of
oure most gratious Soverigne Lord James by the grace of God of England Scotland
France and Ireland defender of the faithe (that is to saye) of England
France and Ireland the fifth and of Scotland the ... and ... I Marye
Courthoppe of Wadhurst in the countie of Sussex widdowe late the wife of
George Courthope late of Wilye gent deceased weake of bodye but of
good sound and perfect memory (praised be God therefore) doo ordaine and make this
my laste will and testament in manor and forme followinge First I comend my
soule to the mercie of Allmighty God my creator and to Jesus Christ his onely
son my redeemer and savyour And my bodye to be buryed in decent place of Christian burryall At the daye of my burryall my mynde is
shalbe best--] fortye shillings or
more at the discretion of my executor hereunder named Item I bequest
to John my eldest sonne five shillings and unto everie of my daughters fyve shillings that
shalbe lyvinge at my decease and to everie of my daughters
children that their mothers shalbe departed this world before my decease fyve
shillings And to everie of my sonne Johns children (if their
father be dead at my decease) Twelve pence a peece All the residure of my
goods chattells debts [---] of rents and other things what soever (my due debts
legacies and funerall expenses first satisfied) I wholie give unto my well beloved sonne William
Courthoppe whom I make my sole executor of this my
present testament and last will witnesses present at the declaration hereof Willyam
