Daniel COOK (1633-1707)

and Elizabeth PICKHAM (c1635-1674)

and Sarah HONOR (1650-1689)

Daniel Cooke and Elizabeth Pickham married by licence on 22 July 1662 at the parish church of St. John sub Castro in Lewes, Sussex.  He was then a yeoman of Woodmancote and she of Cuckfield.  A little over 2 years after Elizabeth died, Daniel married Sarah Honor by licence on 15 November 1676 in Woodmancote, Sussex.  Their marriage licence was issued on 21 October 1676 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes, which recorded that Daniel Cooke was of Henfield and Sarah Honours of Woodmancote.  Surety for the licence was provided by Daniel himself and William Honour of Henfield.

Daniel Cook was baptised on 29 September 1633 in Woodmancote, Sussex.  Only his father's name was recorded in the baptism register.  He was the son of Thomas Cook (c1590-1662) and Marie Boniface (1592-1645).  Daniell Cooke died a pauper was buried on 19 February 1706/7 in Woodmancote.

Elizabeth Pickham's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She was buried on 25 August 1674 and it was recorded in the burial register that she was the wife of Daniel Cooke.

Sara Honor was baptised on 6 October 1650 in Woodmancote.  She was the daughter of Anthony Honor (?-1668) and Joan (?-1670).  Her father was of Bilsburrow in Woodmancote when he died..  She was buried on 22 November 1689 in Woodmancote and it was recorded in the burial register that she was the wife of Daniel Cooke.

Daniel Cook and Elizabeth Pickham had 4 known children:

  1. Daniell Cook was baptised on 3 July 1664 in Woodmancote.  He probably died as an infant, although his burial was not recorded in the Woodmancote register.

  2. Thomas Cook was baptised on 1 May 1666 in Woodmancote.  He married Anna Maria Shelley in 1691.  (They have their own page.)

  3. William Cooke was baptised on 23 October 1670 in Woodmancote.  The baptism register records that the family were of Blackson.  He probably died as an infant, but his burial was not recorded in the Woodmancote register.

  4. Edward Cooke was baptised on 3 November 1672 in Woodmancote.  The baptism register records that the family were of Blackson.

Daniel Cook and Sarah Honor had 4 known children:

  1. Mary Cooke was baptised on 14 February 1677/8 at home in Eastout House in Henfield, although her baptism was recorded in the Woodmancote register.  The baptism register also recorded that her Godfather was Thomas Ffloyd of Blackson, and her Godmothers were Mary Holden of Henfield and Sarah Honor.

  2. Daniel Cooke was baptised on 8 August 1680 in Woodmancote.  The baptism register records the family were of Morley Farm.

  3. John Cooke was baptised or his birth was registered on 29 March 1685 in Woodmancote.

  4. William Cooke was baptised on 10 June 1688 in Woodmancote.
