Thomas CATT (1796-1861)

and Sarah LARKIN (1798-1859)

 

Thomas Catt and Sarah Larkin married on 31 May 1819 in Ewhurst, Sussex.  (They were not my direct ancestors.)

Thomas Catt was baptised on 28 February 1796 in Sedlescombe, Sussex.  He was the son of Thomas Catt (1766-1837) and Ann Apps (1769-1851).  Thomas was buried on 1 May 1861 in Udimore, Sussex.

Sarah Larkins was baptised on 13 November 1798 in Rye, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Richard Larkins and Rebecca Dawes.  Sarah was buried on 10 January 1859 in Udimore.

When the 1841 census was recorded the family were living in Nicholls Cottage in Udimore.  In 1851 the couple and 4 children were living in New House, Udimore.  Thomas was then a 54 year old agricultural labourer.  Sarah was then 52 years old.

 

Thomas Catt and Sarah Larkin had 12 known children:

  1. Ann Catt was born in 1820.  She was 21 years old in 1841 and living at home.

  2. Sarah Catt was baptised on 17 March 1822 in Brede and buried there on 22 March 1823.

  3. Harriet Catt was baptised on 10 August 1823 in Udimore.

  4. Edward Catt was baptised on 1 May 1825 in Udimore.  He was 15 years old in 1841.  He married Mercy Ann Foster in 1849.  (They have their own page.)

  5. Thomas Catt was baptised on 11 February 1827 in Udimore.  He was 13 years old in 1841.  In 1851 he was an unmarried 23 year old agricultural labourer and the eldest of his siblings living at home.  He married Caroline.

  6. Eliza Catt was baptised on 7 June 1829 in Udimore.

  7. James Catt was baptised on 23 January 1831 in Udimore.  He was a 20 year old agricultural labourer in 1851 and living with his parents.

  8. Ellen Catt was born about 1833 in Udimore.  The 1841 census records that she was 8 years old.

  9. Richard Catt was born about 1835 in Udimore.  He was 6 years old in 1841.  In 1851 he was a 16 year old agricultural labourer and living at home.

  10. Sarah Catt was baptised on 22 March 1836 in Udimore and buried there on 3 August 1845.  She was 4 years old in 1841.

  11. Hester Eliza Catt was born about 1839 in Udimore.  In 1841 she was 2 years old.  She was 11 years old in 1851.

  12. Louisa Catt was born about 1840 in Udimore.  She was a year old when the 1841 census was recorded.

 

A database at Ancestry also records that Percy Catt born about 1842 in Udimore was part of this family.  It also notes the 1861 census records that 19 year old Percy was a pupil in Battle.  But, I have checked the 1861 census entry and Percy was then 9 years old, therefore, born about 1852, and as Sarah was then about 54 years old, it would seem unlikely he was a son of Thomas and Sarah.
