Albert CATT
(1871-?)
and Annie HARDEN (c1875-?)

Albert Catt and Annie Harden married in the first
quarter of 1900 in the Hastings registration district. (They were not
my direct ancestors.)
Albert Catt was born in the second quarter of 1871 in Sandhurst,
Kent. He was the son of
David Catt (1839-1925) and
Mary Elizabeth Tree
(1843-1916). His father was an agricultural labourer.
Albert worked for most of his life on the railway. At the
time of the 1871 census he was a month old and living with his parents and
elder siblings near Heronden, Kent. In 1881 he was a 10 year old
scholar living at Lamberden in Sandhurst with his parents and siblings.
When the 1891 census was recorded he was a 20 year old agricultural labourer
living with his parents at Lamberden.
Annie Harden was born in Ham Street, Kent and baptised on
29 August 1875 in Warehorne, Kent. She was the daughter of
James Harden (c1844-1917) and Emma (c1849-?)
(possibly Emma Jenns). Her father was an agricultural
labourer. At the time of the 1881 census she was 6 years old and
living with her parents and siblings in a private cottage at Ham Street.
The census then recorded her place of birth as Warehorne, although in the
1891 and 1901 census her place of birth was Hamstreet. When the 1891
census was recorded she was a 16 year old general domestic servant in the
home of 75 year old widow, Sarah Cave at 9 St. Martin's
Terrace in Dover.
When the 1901 census was recorded the couple and their young son were living
at 5 Hughenden Road, Hastings. Albert was then a 30 year old engine
driver (stationary) and Annie was 26.
In 1911 the couple and their 5 children were living at 69 Hughenden Road,
Hastings. Albert was then a 39 year old corn and coal merchant's
porter and Annie was 36.
