John CARVER (c1630-?)

and Joan (c1630-?)

John Carver and Joan may have been my 9x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their possible place in my pedigree chart.)  They probably married in the 1650's and possibly in, or near, Sutton, Sussex.

John Carver's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  Might his mother have been Elenor Carver who was buried as a widow on 14 July 1657 in Sutton?  A John Carver was buried on 25 January 1670/1 in Sutton.

Joan's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.

As Joan Carver  she married Thomas Quinell by licence on 24 July 1671 in Sutton.  He was a yeoman.  Thomas's previous wife also named Joane was buried on 7 January 1670/1 in Sutton.  (Or might I have got the year wrong?  Might it be 1671/2?  In which case the burial was possibly of John Carer's widow.)

Thomas Quinell's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He was buried on 20 February 1682/3 in Sutton.  Thomas may have first married Joan Snigur on 6 April 1635 in Pulborough, Sussex.

John Carver and Joan had 3 known children and possibly more:

  1. John Carver may have been part of this family.  He may have been buried on 1 December 1684 in Sutton.

John married Anne Sotcher on 29 November 1679 in Sutton.

John and Anne had the following children:

    1. Joane Carver was baptised on 22 August 1679 in Sutton.

    2. John Carver was baptised on 15 April 1683 in Sutton.

    3. Anne Carver was baptised on 18 February 1684/5 in Sutton.  She may have been buried in Sutton in April 1688.  The burial register records that she was the daughter of Ann Carver.

  2. Henry Carver may have been part of this family.  A Henry Carver was buried on 22 February 1703/4 in Sutton.

Henry married Mary Andrew on 13 October 1679 in Barlavington, Sussex.  He was then of Sutton and she of Barlavington.

    1. Elizabeth Carver was baptised on 24 January 1679/80 in Sutton.

    2. Mary Carver was baptised on 3 October 1682 in Sutton.

    3. Ellenor Carver was baptised on 5 February 1683/4 in Sutton and buried there on 12 February 1683/4.  The burial register noted she was the young daughter of Henry.

    4. Richard Carver was baptised on 1 September 1685 in Sutton.

    5. William Carver was baptised on 22 April 1690 in Sutton.

    6. Henry Carver was baptised on 6 October 1695 in Sutton.

  3. Eleanor Carver may have been part of this family.

Eleanor married John Coot on 3 June 1679 in Barlavington.  She was then of Barlavington and he was of Coats cum Burton, Sussex.

  4. Richard Carver may have been part of this family.  A Richard Carver was buried on 7 November 1690 in Sutton and another on 9 June 1705, also in Sutton.

    Richard married Jane.

Richard and Jane had the following children:

    1. Joane Carver was baptised on 8 January 1677/8 in Sutton.

    2. Richard Carver was baptised on 17 April 1682 in Sutton.

Richard may have married Jane Grinstead on 29 May 1711 in Sutton.  They were both of Sutton.

    3. Jane Carver was baptised on 22 November 1684 in Sutton and buried there on 25 November 1684.

    4. John Carver was baptised on 22 November 1684 in Sutton and buried there on 25 November 1684.

  5. Joan Carver, my 8x Great Grandmother, may have been part of this family.  She married Thomas Piper in Sutton in 1682.  (They have their own page.)

  6. William Carver was born on 20 August 1660 and baptised on 25 September 1660 in Sutton.  He may have married Elizabeth Weeks in 1689.  (They have their own page.)

  7. Mary Carver was baptised on 24 February 1662 in Sutton.  She may have married Thomas Curtis on 11 February 1685/6 in Sutton.  They were both then of Sutton.

  8. Robert Carver was baptised on 21 April 1667 in Sutton.  He married Frances Ford in 1696.  (They have their own page.)
