John CAPELIN (c1740-1800)

and Mary HOLDER (1745-?)

 

John Capelin and Mary Holder married by licence on 21 March 1768 in Woodmancote, Sussex.  He was then a bachelor of Henfield and she a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were Charles Dennett and John Evans Caplen.  (They were not my direct ancestors).

John Capelin's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He was most probably buried on 10 May 1800 in Henfield, Sussex.  Might he have been the son of John Capelyn and Sarah Holden who married in Henfield on 4 April 1743?

Mary Older was baptised on 15 April 1745 in Woodmancote, Sussex.  She was the daughter of William Older (1720-?) and Mary Taylor.  When she was baptised her father was of Blackstone.

 

John Capelin and Mary Holder had 9 known children:

  1. Mary Older was baptised on 29 March 1767 in Woodmancote as the base born daughter of Mary.  As Mary Capeling did she marry Matthew Trustler on 25 November 1792 in Edburton, Sussex?

  2. Elizabeth Capelyn was baptised on 16 April 1769 in Henfield.

  3. Harry Capelin was baptised on 24 February 1771 in Henfield and buried there on 9 July 1787.  The burial register noted that he was the son of John Capelin and Mary.

  4. Sarah Capelin was baptised on 29 August 1773 in Henfield.  As Sarah Capeling did she marry John Turll on 11 June 1795 in Upper Beeding, Sussex.

  5. John Capelin was baptised on 11 February 1776 in Henfield.  John married Frances French on 13 October 1802 in Woodmancote.  He was a bachelor and she was a spinster.  The witnesses to their marriage were Edward Baker and Thomas Patchen.

  6. Daniel Capelin was baptised on 21 September 1777 in Henfield and buried there as an infant on 25 December 1777.

  7. Ann Capelin was baptised on 15 November 1778 in Henfield.

  8. William Capelin was baptised on 19 August 1781 in Henfield and buried there as an infant on 9 September 1781.

  9. Daniel Capelin was baptised on 7 May 1786 in Woodmancote.  He may have married Anne Holder in 1813.  (They have their own page.)

 

A John Caplin was buried on 11 October 1775 in Henfield.  Mary Capelin widow was buried on 24 September 1793 in Henfield.
