Daniel Holder was baptised on 27 March 1808 in
Woodmancote. He died aged 74 years and was buried on 19 August
1882 in Upper Beeding. The burial register recorded his name as
Daniel Caplin.
As Daniel Capeling Holder he married Mary Ann
Cursons by banns on 26 May 1833 in Edburton. He was then
of Henfield and she of Edburton.
Mary Ann was born about 1808 in Fulking, Sussex.
When the 1851 census was recorded the couple and their 3 children were
living in Freelands Cottages in Beeding. He was then a 47
year old labourer and she was 43.
Daniel and Mary Ann had the following children:

George Capelin was baptised on 3 August 1834 in
Upper Beeding, at which time his father was a labourer from Small
Dole. He died aged 23 years and was buried on 17 June 1858 in
Upper Beeding. In 1851 he was a 16 year old agricultural labourer
living at home.

Harriet Capelin was baptised on 18 June 1840 in
Upper Beeding. She was an 11 year old scholar in 1851.

Jane Capelin was baptised on 31 May 1846 in Upper
Beeding. She was a 7 year old scholar in 1851.
As a widower Daniel Holder married Caroline
Welling, widow, by banns on 4 November 1860 in Upper Beeding.
He was then a labourer. Their fathers were named as Daniel
Capelin and George Street who were both
labourers. The witnesses to their marriage were James
Slaughter and Harriet Slaughter.

Caroline Holder was baptised on 12 January 1812 in
Woodmancote.
Caroline had the following children:

Charlotte Capelin was born about 1831. The
1841 census records that she was 10 year old Charlotte
Kensett.

Alfred Capelin was born about 1835. The 1841
census records that he was 6 year old Alfred Kensett.

Jonathan Capelin was baptised on 24 June 1838 in
Upper Beeding. The 1841 census records that he was 3 year old
Jonathan Kensett.
Caroline married John Kensett by banns on 23 March 1840
in Upper Beeding. John was a 20 year old bachelor and labourer and
Caroline was a spinster and baseborn. John was the son of
John Kensett a labourer. The witnesses to their marriage
were Henry Capelen and Sarah Boniface.
John and Caroline had the following child:

Sarah Kensett was born about 1840. She was a
year old when the 1841 census was recorded.

Capelin was baptised on 8 October 1815 in Henfield, at which
time his father was a labourer.
Henry married
Sarah Boniface by banns on 28 June 1840 in Lower
Beeding. He was then a bachelor and labourer and she was a 19 year
old spinster. Their fathers were named as Daniel Capelin
and John Boniface who were both labourers. The
witnesses to their marriage were John Capelin and
T. Stoner.
Sarah was born about 1821 in Beeding, Sussex.
When the 1851 census was recorded the couple and their 5 children were
living in ?? Erringham, Old Shoreham, Sussex. Henry was then a 35
year old carter and Sarah was 30. Also with the family was his
brother George.

She was 10 years old in 1851.

George Caplin was in Beeding and baptised on 11 December
1842 in Henfield. He was 8 years old in 1851.

Henry Capelin was baptised on 1 March 1844 in Beeding.
He was 7 years old in 1851.

Eliza Caplin was baptised on 23 May 1847 in Beeding.
She was 4 years old in 1851.

Jane Caplin was born about 1849 in Beeding. At the
time of the 1851 census she was 2 years old.

John Caplin was baptised on 9
November 1817 in Henfield, at which time his father was a labourer.
John married
Elizabeth Ann Stillaway on 25 December 1843 in Brighton.
Their fathers were named as Daniel Capeling and
Henry Stillaway.
Elizabeth Ann was baptised on 11 January 1815 in
Henfield and was the daughter of
Henry Stillaway
(1775-1837) and
Elizabeth Peters
(c1783-1863).
When the 1851 census was recorded the couple and their 2 children were
living in Small Dole in the parish of Beeding. John was then a 34
year old agricultural labourer and Ann was 35. Their next door
neighbour was
William Lelliott and his 2 daughters.
John and Ann had the following children:

John Caplin was born about 1844 in Beeding. He was 7
years old in 1851.

George Capelin was baptised on 11 June 1847 in Beeding.
He was 3 years old in 1851.

Beeding, at which time her father was a labourer from Horton.

Edward Capelin was baptised on 6 February 1820 in Henfield,
at which time his father was a labourer from Streatham. He married
Harriet Clements

Capling was baptised on 31 March 1822 in Henfield. The
baptism register noted that his father was a labourer. In 1851 he
was an unmarried 29 year old carter and living with the family of his
brother Henry.
