and Elizabeth (?-?)
may have married sometime before or about 1665 and
maybe in or around Salehurst, Sussex. Thomas may have previously
married Mary Garret on 19 July 1660 in Salehurst. Or
at the baptism of his son in 1665, Mary's name may have been wrongly
recorded as Elizabeth. Or might they have married later, as the IGI
notes a Thomas Butler married Elizabeth Freeman
on 5 November 1672 in Salehurst (this date does not appear in the Sussex
Thomas Butler may have been baptised on 28 March
1624, the son of
or on 17 January 1635/6, the son of
Butler (1591-1645) and
(c1600-1637). Both baptisms took place in Burwash.
Elizabeth's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to
and Elizabeth had 1 known child:
Thomas Butler was baptised on 24 September 1665 in Salehurst. He
may have married
Hannah Hickes in
1703. (They have their own page.) They named a son Abraham.
Might this have been after his grandfather? Thomas and Hannah had
3 daughters, none of whom were named Susan or Elizabeth. Thomas
was a carpenter of Lewes when he married.
Thomas Butler and
Elizabeth Freeman had 2 known children:
Elizabeth Butler was baptised on 17 December 1676 in Salehurst.
Butler was baptised on 16 June 1678 in Salehurst.
I had thought it
more likely that 1636 Thomas was the father of 1665 Thomas, but now I'm not
so sure. I/we need to try and find anything at the East Sussex Record
Office which may help to identify or eliminate who belonged to which family.
