Thomas BROOKER (1611-1683)

and Anne STEER (c1610-1649)

 

Thomas Brooker and Anne Steer married by licence issued on 6 June 1633 by the Archdeaconry of Lewes.  Thomas was then a husbandman and Anne a spinster, and they were both of Twineham, Sussex.  Thomas may have married again on 4 February 1649/50 to Margaret Wood at Crawley, Sussex.  (At one point I had thought Thomas and Anne were my ancestors, but have since realised they were not.)

Thomas Brooker may have been baptised on 1 December 1611 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, and have been the son of 5 250 John Brooker (1572-?) and 5 250 Catherine Rockes.  He may have been buried on 20 January 1682/3 in Worth, but the burial register just records the name and no further details.  The Worth burial register also records that a Thomas Brooker, senior was buried on 18 April 1649.

Anne Steer’s date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She was buried on 29 November 1649 in Worth and was described as the wife of Thomas Brooker.  Might she have been the daughter of John Steere and Alice Nicholas who married on 22 June 1607 in Henfield, Sussex?

 

Thomas Brooker and Anne Steer had 6 known children:

  1. John Brooker was baptised on 25 June 1637 in Worth.  A child of Thomas Brooker was buried on 9 September 1642 in Worth.  Might the burial have been of John or an unbaptised child? 

  2. Henry Brooker was baptised on 30 March 1639 in Worth and buried there on 16 April 1639.

  3. Alice Brooker was baptised on 28 May 1641 in Worth and buried there on 30 May 1641.

  4. Thomas Brooker was baptised on 5 June 1643 in Worth.

    Thomas married Mary Beadle on 28 October 1668 in Horley, Surrey.

    Thomas and Mary may have had the following children:

    1. Mary Brooker was baptised on 18 September 1669 in Worth.

    2. Anne Brooker was baptised on 14 January 1671/2 in Worth.

    3. Elizabeth Brooker was baptised on 19 April 1674 in Worth.

    4. Thomas Brooker was baptised on 21 May 1676 in Worth.  Did he marry Jane Chapman in 1699?

    5. John Brooker was baptised on 19 May 1678 in Worth.

    6. James Brooker was baptised on 17 October 1686 in Worth.

  5. Anne Brooker was baptised on 22 March 1644/5 in Worth.  She may have married 5 248 William Burley in 1665.  (They have their own page.)

  6. Robert Brooker was baptised on 25 November 1649 in Worth and buried there on 4 December 1649.
