James Brooker

Frances Care
married on 6 January 1730/1 in Slaugham, Sussex. He was then a
bachelor.
James Brooker's
date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me. A James Brooker
died aged 91 years and was buried on 18 October 1801 in Cuckfield, Sussex.
Might he have been baptised on 14 June 1713 in Worth, Sussex and have been
the son of Thomas
Brooker and
Jane Chapman,
who had married in East Grinstead in 1699? Or was he the son of
James Brooker and Ann Vinall who had married in West Hoathly in
1707? (I think it more likely he was the son of James and Ann.)
Frances Care's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.
(The Sussex marriage index records the marriage of John Care of Balcombe and Elizabeth Roser
of Lindfield, on 11 May 1708 in Lindfield, and I had wondered if they may
have been Frances's parents, but his name was John Cave not Care.)
On 1 July 1739 a settlement certificate was issued to the couple and their 4
children, namely, John, Jane, James and George, by the overseers of West
Hoathly, to allow the family to settle in Cuckfield.

George Brooker was baptised on 17
April 1732 in Slaugham, at which time his parents were of Hordly. (There was another
George Brooker born in 1733 in Isfield. One of them may have
married Mary Tunnel on 31 April 1752 in Ditchling, Sussex.
Might her name have been Mary Funnel?)

James Brooker was baptised on 14 April 1733 in Slaugham.

John Brooker was baptised on 15 May 1737 in Worth, Sussex.

Jane Brooker was baptised on 15 April 1739 in Slaugham.
As Jane Brucker she married James Holden by banns on 3
August 1770 in Cuckfield. They were both then of Cuckfield.

Frances Brooker was born about 1744 and may have been part of this
family. She married
Richard Knowles in 1765 in Cuckfield. (They have their own page.)
Thomas Brooker married Susanna Muzzal by
banns on 14 October 1760 in Lindfield. He was from Westmeston and she
of Lindfield.
Esther Brooker married Rose Ellyat on 4
February 1765 in Slaugham. Esther was of Slaugham and Rose from
Goring.
Elizabeth Brooker married William Downer
on 31 July 1774 in Balcombe. She may have been baptised on 24
September 1752 in Balcombe, the daughter of William Brooker.
Frusanna Brooker married William Holliday
by banns on 13 February 1780 in Cuckfield. They were both described as
sojourners.
William Brooker married Sarah Juniper by
banns on 25 May 1785 in Cuckfield. They were both of Cuckfield.
