John BRAND (c1700-?)

and Abigail (c1704-1772)

 

John Brand and Abigail were my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They may have married sometime before or about 1725 and possible in or near Henham, Essex.

John Brand's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  He may have been baptised on 30 September 1705 in Henham, Essex, the son of Robert Brand and Mary Newland, who had married on 10 October 1704 in Henham.  However, a John Brand and Martha had children baptised in Henham between 1724 and 1739 (see further below).

Abigail's date and place of birth/baptism are unknown, to me.  She was buried on 25 December 1772 in Henham, Essex.

 

John Brand and Abigail had 7 known children:

  1. John Brand was baptised on 7 January 1725/6 in Henham.

  2. Edmund Brand was baptised on 11 February 1726/7 in Henham.  He was buried in Henham on 29 January 1774.  He left a will, in which he was described as a butcher of Henham.

  3. Mary Brand was baptised on 16 November 1728 in Henham.

  4. Thomas Brand was baptised on 19 June 1731 in Henham and buried there on 27 July 1731.

  5. Sarah Brand was baptised on 17 March 1732/3 in Henham.

  6. Anne Brand was baptised on 20 April 1735 in Henham.

  7. Susanna Brand, my 5x Great Grandmother, was baptised on 1 February 1739/40 in Henham.  She married John Dixon in 1762.  (They have their own page.)

  8. Abigail Brand was born about 1741 and buried on 19 November 1747 in Henham.

 

John Brand married Mary Hammond on 21 April 1701 in Henham.

 

John Brand and Mary had the following children:

  1. Sarah Brand was baptised on 2 May 1716 in Henham.  Sarah may have married Edward Wright on 25 December 1738 in Henham.

  2. Lewis Brand was baptised on 9 January 1719/20 in Henham.  Lewis may have married Mary Wright on 24 February 1743 in Great Waltham, Essex.

Did this John then marry Martha?  Or was Mary and Martha one and the same?

John Brand and Martha had the following children:

  1. Mary Brand was baptised on 20 April 1724 in Henham.

  2. Jane Brand was baptised on 28 December 1725 in Henham.

  3. Robert Brand was baptised on 22 May 1727 in Henham.

  4. Anne Brand was baptised on 7 June 1729 in Henham.

  5. John Brand was baptised on 20 October 1731 in Henham.

  6. Elizabeth Brand was baptised on 14 September 1734 in Henham.

  7. Bailey Brand (son) was baptised on 5 February 1737/8 in Henham.

  8. Benjamin Brand was baptised on 24 April 1739 in Henham.

 

Lewis Brand, yeoman of Henham, left a will in 1666.

Robert Brand was buried in Henham on 18 February 1708/9.

Elizabeth Brand was buried on 13 April 1737 in Henham.
