William BOX (1780-1861)

and Philadelphia BUDGEN (1787-1806)

and Mary PAIN (1788-?)

William Box married twice, firstly to Philadelphia Budgen by banns on 31 May 1804 in Ardingly, Sussex.  They both made their marks.  The witnesses to their marriage were Charles Chatfield and Richard Creasey.  The banns were published in Ardingly on 29 April, 6 and 13 May 1804.  William next married Mary Pain by banns on 25 April 1808 in Ardingly.  He was described as a widower and she a spinster and they were both of Ardingly.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  William was the nephew of my 4x great grandmother, Sarah Box.)

William Box was born on 23 July 1780 and baptised on 6 August 1780 in Ardingly.  He was the son of John Box (1757-1826) and Mary Williams (1761-1829).  He died in 1861 in Ardingly.

Philadelphia Budgen was baptised on 11 February 1787 in West Hoathly, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Thomas Budgen (1751-?) and Mary Peckham.  She died aged 19 years and was buried on 13 May 1806 in Ardingly.

Mary Pain was baptised on 4 May 1788 in Balcombe, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Thomas Payne and Mary Elsey (1758-?).

William Box and Philadelphia Budgen had 1 known child:

  1. William Box was born on 1 September 1804 and baptised on 24 September 1804.  He died on 20 December 1868 in Ardingly.
