Thomas BOX (1690-?)

and Elizabeth PILBEAM (1683-?)

and Mary FAULKNER (1687-1730)

and Anne BURGESS (1710-?)


Thomas Box may have married 3 times, firstly to Elizabeth Pilbeam on 10 April 1711 in Ardingly, Sussex.  There were no known children from this marriage.  He may then have married Mary Faulkner on 5 April 1716 in Ardingly.  His third marriage may have been to Anne Burgess on 25 January 1732/3 in Ardingly.  (They were not my direct ancestors.  Thomas was the brother of my 6x Great Grandfather.)

Thomas Box was baptised on 24 October 1690 in Ardingly.  He was the son of William Box (1647-1718) and Susanna (c1655-1705).  He was a carpenter.

Elizabeth Pilbeam was baptised on  19 May 1683 in Ardingly.  She was the daughter of Thomas Pilbeame (1655-1700) and Susanna Newnham (1659-1726).

Mary Faulkner was baptised on 6 December 1687 in Balcombe, Sussex.  She was the daughter of Henry Faulkner and Mary Cheale.  She died aged 46 years was buried on 12 November 1730 in Ardingly.

Ann Burgess was baptised on 19 November 1710 in Hartfield, Sussex, and was the daughter of William Burgess and Mary Vinall.


Thomas Box and Mary Faulkner had 4 known children:

  1. Mary Box was baptised on 4 December 1719 in Ardingly.  She may have married George Chapman on 27 October 1747 in Ardingly.  George was then of Lingfield, Surrey and Mary of Ardingly.  But Mary did have a cousin Mary Box born in 1718.

  2. Thomas Box was baptised on 12 November 1721 and buried there on 26 May 1730 aged 9 years.

  3. John Box was baptised privately on 31 May 1724 and received into the parish church of Ardingly on 21 June.  He was buried there on 16 July 1725

  4. George Box was born on 6 January and baptised on 19 March 1726/7.


Thomas Box and Anne Burgess had 5 known children:

  1. Thomas Box was born on 11 December and baptised on 16 December 1733 in Ardingly.  He died aged 6 years and was buried on 16 March 1739/40 in Ardingly.

  2. Anne Box was born on 6 July and baptised on 13 July 1735 in Ardingly.

  3. Susannah Box was born on 23 March and baptised on 27 March 1737 in Ardingly.

  4. Lutener Box was born on 6 March and baptised 25 March 1739 in Ardingly.  He died aged 18 months and was buried on 14 September 1740.

  5. Elizabeth Box was born on 29 August and baptised on 6 September 1741 in Ardingly.
