John Box and Lucy Card married

John Box
was born on 23 September 1804 and baptised on 10 February 1805 in
Ardingly, Sussex. He was the son of
Peter Box (1777-?) and
Sarah Mason
(1774-?).
Lucy Card was baptised on 1
February 1801 in Hartfield. She was the daughter of Stephen Card
and Mary Bashford. She died aged 65 years and her death was
registered in the second quarter of 1866 in the Brighton registration
district.
The 1841 census records the John and Lucy were both 30 years old and living
with their 3 children at Cheltenham Place in Brighton. John was then a
stable keeper.
In 1851, John was said to have been aged 46 years and
Lucy was 48. John gave his place of birth as Ardingly and Lucy as East
Grinstead. They were then living at 2 Cheltenham Place and John was
the proprietor of a Hackney Carriage.
When the 1861 census was
recorded, Lucy was a 58 year old married laundress living at 18 Newhaven
Street, Brighton. With her was 50 year old visitor Elizabeth
Slaughter who was also a laundress.

Box was baptised on 23 July 1826 at St. Nicholas in Brighton.

John Box
was baptised on 11 November 1827 in Brighton. He died in 1891.
In 1841 he was said to be 11 years old.
John married
Mary Ann Carey on 30 May 1846 in Brighton.
When the 1871 census was recorded the couple were living at 4½ Oxford
Street, Brighton. John was a 44 year old flyman and Mary Ann was a
48 year old ironer.

Louisa Box
was baptised on 17 July 1831 in Brighton. In 1841 she was 9 years
old.

Elizabeth
Sophia Ruth Box was baptised on 4 August 1839 in Brighton. The
1841 census records that Sophia Box was 2 years old.
In 1851 she was an 11 year old scholar.

Edward
Albert Box was baptised on 30 January 1842 in Brighton. The
1851 census records that Albert Box was a 10 year old
scholar.
