John BOX (1757-1826)

and Mary WILLIAMS (1761-1829)

John Box and Mary Williams married by banns on 9 June 1779 in Ardingly, Sussex.  John was a single man and signed his name and Mary was a spinster who made her X mark.  They were both of Ardingly.  The witnesses to their marriage were John Elsey (mark) and William Tharpe (signed).  (They were not my direct ancestors.  John was the brother of my 4x great grandmother, Sarah Box.)

John Box was born on 27 June and baptised on 10 July 1757 in Ardingly.  He was the son of John Box (1732-1810) and Hannah Hames (1737-1815).  He died aged 68 at Hapstead Green and was buried on 17 February 1826 in Ardingly.

Mary Williams was baptised on 4 April 1761 in Worth, Sussex.  She was the daughter of George Williams (1728-1803) and Mary Tester (1728-?).  She died aged 68 years at Hapstead and was buried on 3 May 1829 in Ardingly.
