Thomas BOURNE
(1769-1845)
and Sarah NOAKES (1774-1848)

Thomas Bourne and Sarah Noakes married on 22 April 1800 in
Heathfield, Sussex. He was then of
Brightling and she of Heathfield. They both signed their names.
The witnesses to the marriage were Ann Ashdown and Robert Marchant
who both signed their names. Thomas and Sarah were married by the
vicar, R. Constable. (They were not my direct ancestors.
Thomas was the brother of my 4x Great Grandfather, John Bourne.)
Thomas Bourne
was baptised on 15 October 1769 in Hellingly,
Sussex. He was the son of
Thomas Bourne
(1746-1801) and
Ann Gibson (1747-1801). He died aged 76 years and was buried
on 12 March 1845 in Ninfield, Sussex.
Sarah Noakes was baptised on 8
December 1774 in Brightling, Sussex. She was the daughter of Thomas
Noakes and Ann Buss (1746-?). She died aged 73 years and
was buried on 5 March 1848 in Ninfield.
When the 1841 census was recorded Sarah was living in Ninfield along with 6
year old Reuben Bourne. Thomas was not at home of census night.
Thomas Bourne and
Sarah Noakes had 6 known children:

Thomas Bourne
was baptised on 4 October 1801 in
Brightling. He died aged 45 years and was buried on 4 March 1847 in
Ninfield.
Thomas married Mary Elliott by banns on 25 April 1832
in Ninfield, Sussex. They were both then of Ninfield and both
signed their names. The witnesses to the marriage were Samuel
Elliott and Ann Elliott who also both signed their names.
They were married by the curate, John George Ash.
Mary was baptised on 4 September 1799 in Dallington and was the daughter
of Samuel Elliott and Margaret. She was a 51 year
old widow when the 1851 census was recorded and she was living in Lower
Street, Ninfield along with 89 year old widow Ruth Sheather.
When the 1841 census was recorded the family were living in Lower
Street, Ninfield and John was a carrier. Both John and Mary were
said to be 40 years old.
Thomas and Mary had 4 known children:

Thomas Alfred Bourne was baptised on 28 October 1832 in
Dallington. Thomas Bourne was 8 years old in 1841.
In 1851, 19 year old Alfred Bourne was living in Gardner
Street, Herstmonceux in the home of Henry Holland, where he was
an assistant in the shop.

Ann Bourne was baptised on 7 December 1834 in Dallington.
In 1841 she was 6 years old. She was an 16 year old house servant
in 1851 living in Lower Street, Ninfield in the home of George Davey
and his family.

Jane Bourne was baptised on 5 April 1840 in Ninfield, at which
time her father was a carrier of Ninfield. She died aged 6 months
and was buried on 11 July 1840 in Ninfield.

Mary Bourne was baptised on 15 October 1843 in Ninfield, at which
time her father was a carrier of Ninfield. When the 1851 census
was recorded she was a 7 year old visitor in the home of John
Haselden and his wife Lavinia in Pleasurefield, Ashburnham.
(John had married Lavinia Elliot on 2 November 1831 at All Saints
in Hastings, Sussex. She was baptised on 31 May 1804 and was the
daughter of Samuel Elliott and Margaret.)

was baptised on 22 April 1804 in
Brightling.

John Bourne
was baptised on 7 September 1806 in
Brightling.

Jane Bourne
was baptised on 1 January 1809 in
Brightling.

Martha Bourne
was baptised on 20 June 1813 in Ninfield, at which time her father was a
farmer of Ninfield. She died aged 39 years and was buried on 18
October 1852 in Ninfield.

Benjamin
Bourne was baptised on 15 September 1816 in Ninfield, at which time
his father was a farmer of Ninfield.
Benjamin married
Susan Hedger on 16 June 1839 in Ninfield. He was a 23 year
old labourer of Ninfield and she a 32 year old maid servant also of
Ninfield. They both signed their names. Their fathers were
named as Thomas Bourne a labourer and Michael Hedger a
labourer. The witnesses to the marriage were Albert Holland
and Jane Holland, who both signed their names. They were
married by the vicar, John Phillips.
Susan was
baptised on 15 March 1807 in Eastbourne, Sussex and was the daughter of
Michael Hedger and Mary Young.
When the 1841
census was recorded the couple and their baby daughter were living at
---sons Farm in Ninfield and Benjamin was an agricultural labourer.

Susan had 3 known children:

Sarah Bourne
was baptised on 24 January 1841 in Ninfield. She was 5 months when
the 1841 census was recorded.

Benjamin
Bourne was born on 1 January and baptised on 29 January 1843 in
Ninfield. Benjamin married Harriet Stubberfield on 27
December 1869 in Wartling. She was born there in about 1845.
In 1881 the family were living in a cottage in Ninfield and Benjamin was
a 40 year old grocer. Benjamin and Harriet had 4 known children:

Fred
Bourne was born about 1872 in Ninfield. In 1881 he was a 9
year old scholar.

Grace
Bourne was born in the third quarter of 1873 in Ninfield. In
1881 she was a 7 year old scholar. She married Ernest Austin
Collett in 1896. He was born about 1868 in Gloucestershire.

Hanna
Bourne was born about 1875 in Ninfield. She was a 6 year old
scholar in 1881.

Lilian
Bourne was born about 1880 in Ninfield. She was a year old
when the 1881 census was recorded.

Elizabeth
Bourne was baptised on 20 April 1845 in Ninfield.
