Henry BOURNE
(1771-?)
and Sarah DUNK (c1777-1847)

Henry Bourne and
Sarah Dunk
married by licence on 2 May 1798 in
Brightling, Sussex. They were both of Brightling and both signed their
names. The witnesses were Richard Foster (I think that's he's
surname, but it could be Porter) and
John Grant.
John Grant was probably a church warden as he witnessed several
marriages. (They were not my direct ancestors. Thomas was the
brother of my 4x Great Grandfather, John Bourne.)
Henry Bourne
was baptised on 19 October 1771 in
Hellingly, Sussex. He was the son of
Thomas Bourne
(1746-1801) and
Ann Gibson (1747-1801). He was appointed a joint executor of
his father's will, along with
William Grigson. The 1851 census records that he was an 81
year old widower, living with his son Robert.
Sarah Dunk's date and place of
birth/baptism are unknown, to me. She died aged 70 years and was
buried on 21 April 1847 in Hellingly.
In 1821 Henry
inherited Carricks Hill Farm in Dallington, under the terms of William
Dunk's will, which was subject to specified payments to Edward Buss
of Brightling, labourer and his wife Elizabeth and Thomas Waters
of Herstmonceux, appraiser, and his wife Anne. Henry Bourne
had lived initially at Brightling, but was of Dallington in 1823 and of
Ewhurst in 1828 when he, with others, sold the property. Land Tax
records that the property was owned by William Dunk's executors in
1825. John Fuller of Rosehill, Brightling bought the property
in 1828. In 1841, Henry and Sarah were living at Court Lodge in
Kingsnorth, Kent and he was then a farmer.

Bexhill, Sussex, and was the daughter of William Shaw and Sarah
Lansdell. Sarah was buried in Upper Dicker on 5 June 1858.
(For more details about Sarah Lansdell, please visit
