William BOTTING

William Botting and Mary Freeman married
by licence on 22 December 1771 at the parish
church of St. James in Ashurst,
Sussex. He was then a bachelor and she a spinster and they were both of
Ashurst. The witnesses to the marriage were William Freeman and
Thomas Muzzall. (They were not my direct ancestors. Mary
was the sister of my 5x great grandfather, John Freeman.)
William Botting may have been born about 1746. He died aged 74
years in Washington and was buried on 4 February 1820 in West Grinstead.
He was appoint a joint executor of his father-in-law's
will of 1776, in which he was said to be a carpenter of Shipley, living
in the same house as his father-in-law.
Mary
Freeman was baptised on 26 July 1747
in West Grinstead. She was the eldest daughter of
Richard Freeman
(c1715-1778)
and Mary Bennet
(1715-?). Mary died aged 71 years in Washington and
was buried on 24 June 1818 in West Grinstead. Mary was mentioned in
the 1752 will of her paternal grandfather, Richard Freeman.
