James BOTTING (1565-1614)

and Margery WALDER (1563-?)

James Bottinge and Margery Walder married on 6 December 1596 in Nuthurst, Sussex.

James Bottinge was probably baptised on 20 December 1565 in Nuthurst, Sussex.  He may have been the son of Thomas Bottinge and Joan, but his parent's names were not recorded in the baptism register.  He left a will which was proved on 12 July 1614.  His will records that he was sick in body but of perfect mind.  He mentioned his sons James, Richard, John, William and Thomas who were all under 21, wife Margery and brother John Walder.

Margery Walder was probably baptised on 22 August 1563 in Horsham, Sussex, the daughter of Thomas Walder (c1520-1587) and Emma Patching.  A deposition book from November 1611-January 1618 recorded Marjorie Bottinge of Nuthurst, widow, where she had lived about 16 years, and before at Horsham for about 30 years and where she was born, aged about 44 years.

James Botting and Margery Walder had 5 known children:

  1. James Bottinge was baptised on 20 August 1597/8 in Nuthurst.  His parents names were not recorded in the baptism register.  He married Susan Willett in 1624.  (They have their own page.)

  2. Richard Botting was baptised in August 1599 in Nuthurst.

  3. John Botting was baptised on 18 January 1600/1 in Nuthurst.

  4. William Botting was baptised on 4 April 1603/4 in Nuthurst.

  5. Thomas Botting was baptised on 16 December 1604 in Nuthurst.  The baptism register records that his parents were James and Margery.

Other baptisms:

Please note the names of the parents were not recorded in the baptism register.

  1. Annes Bottinge was baptised on 26 December 1596/7 in Nuthurst.

  2. Edward Bottinge was baptised on 27 February 1597/8 in Nuthurst.  His baptism was recorded after that of James, and the names of his parents were not recorded.  Might he have been a son of Edward Botting?

  3. A [blank] Bottinge was baptised on 7 May 1598/9 in Nuthurst.

  4. Edward Bottinge was baptised on 23 February 1598/9 in Nuthurst.  His parents names were not recorded, but might he have been a son of Edward Bottinge?

  6. Margett Botting was baptised on 26 April 1601/2 in Nuthurst.

  7. Mary Botting was bapitsed on 26 February 1602/3 in Nuthurst.

  10. Agnes Botting was baptised on 22 March 1605/6 in Nuthurst.  The baptism register records that her father was Edward.
