Edward BOTTING (1729-1804)

and Sarah GRINSTEAD (1735-1814)

 

Edward Botting and Sarah Grinstead married on 21 February 1754 in Shipley, Sussex.

Edward Botting was baptised on 2 September 1729 in West Grinstead, Sussex.  He was the son of John Botting (1702-1786) and Mary Holland (-1779).  He was buried in West Grinstead on 3 September 1804.  Edward was mentioned in his father's will of 1784 at which time Edward was of Ashurst. He inherited his father's freehold messuage, tenement, farm lands and premises and their appurtenances called Smoke-house in Shipley.

Sarah Grinstead was baptised on 28 May 1735 in Shipley.  She was the daughter of John Grinstead and Sarah Collis.  She was buried on 7 November 1814 in West Grinstead.

 

Edward Botting and Sarah Grinstead had 7 known children:

  1. Sarah Botting was baptised on 19 January 1755 in Shipley.  She married Harry Woolven in 1777.  (They have their own page.)

  2. Mary Botting was baptised on 16 August 1756 in West Grinstead.  She was mentioned in her grandfather's will, by which she received a legacy of 50.

    Mary married William Stanford by licence on 30 March 1780 in West Grinstead.  Mary was a spinster and William a bachelor and they were both aged 21 years and upwards.  They were both then said to have been of West Grinstead for 4 weeks.  The witnesses to their marriage were Edward Botting and Ann Botting.

  3. Edward Botting was baptised on 16 October 1758 in West Grinstead.  He was mentioned in his grandfather's will. 

    Edward married Jane Burgess by licence on 19 February 1784 in West Grinstead.  He was then a bachelor of West Grinstead and Jane a spinster of Nuthurst.  The witnesses to their marriage were Harry Woolven and Elizabeth Harwood.

  4. Ann Botting was baptised on 11 October 1760 in West Grinstead.  She was mentioned in her grandfather's will.

    Ann most probably married William Dendy by licence on 10 April 1788 in West Grinstead.  William was then of Itchingfield.  The witnesses to the marriage were Edward Botting and Sarah Woolven.

  5. Frances Botting was baptised on 29 August 1764 in West Grinstead.  She was buried on 4 July 1777. 

  6. Henry Botting was baptised on 13 November 1766 in West Grinstead.  He was mentioned in his grandfather's will.

    Henry may have married Ann Heasman on 29 April 1790 in West Grinstead.  Henry was a bachelor of Ashurst and Ann a spinster of West Grinstead.

    Ann was baptised on 30 May 1790 in West Grinstead and was the daughter of Henry Heasman and Elizabeth.

  7. William Botting was baptised on 9 February 1769 in West Grinstead.  He was mentioned in his grandfather's will.

  8. John Botting was mentioned in his paternal grandfather's will, by which he received a legacy of 50.
