Thomas BOSHER (1723-1803)

and Anne STEVENS (1730-?)

 

Thomas Bosher and Anne Stevens were my 6x Great Grandparents.  (Click here to see their place in my pedigree chart.)  They married on 7 September 1748 in Brightwell, Berkshire.  His name was then recorded as Thomas Bosier.

Thomas Bosier was baptised on 22 February 1722/3 in East Hagbourne, Berkshire.  He was the son of John Bosier (1677-1754) and Hannah Rogers (1680-1754).  He died aged 80 years and was buried on 3 March 1803 in Cholsey, Berkshire, when he was described as a Yeoman.

In 1791 Thomas was a Church Warden in Cholsey.  He also signed the Account Book and attended Vestry Meetings.  In 1796 he was recorded in the Cholsey Poll Book, in respect of a House and Land occupied by himself, son James and others.

Anne Stevens was baptised on 19 April 1730 in Brightwell.  She was the daughter of James Stevens and Katherine Aldridge.

 

Thomas Bosher and Ann Stevens had 7 known children:

  1. Thomas Bosher was baptised on 6 May 1750 in Brightwell.  He married Mary Parks on 12 December 1772 in Brightwell.  Brother John was a witness to the marriage.  She was baptised on 2 January 1742 in Brightwell and was the daughter of Richard Parks and Mary.  She died aged 74 years and was buried on 4 April 1816 in Brightwell.  They had 8 known children:

    1. John Bosier was baptised on 19 September 1773 in Brightwell.  He married Catherine.  Their marriage may have been on 2 February 1800 at St. Luke's, Old Street, Finsbury, London, between John Bosher and Catherine Sutton.  She died aged 37 years in the St. Ann's parish of Limehouse, Middlesex and was buried on 3 July 1813 in Brightwell.  The couple may have had 4 known children:

      1. Mary Bosher was born on 16 February 1801 and baptised on 15 March 1801 at St. Luke's, Old Street, Finsbury.

      2. Thomas William Bosher was born on 4 September and baptised on 30 September 1804 at St. Luke's, Old Street, Finsbury.

      3. Catharine Ann Bosher was born on 12 October 1808 and baptised on 5 September 1809 at Peckham Hanover Independent Chapel in Camberwell, Surrey.

      4. Enoch Bosher was born on 22 December 1809 and baptised on 6 March 1810 at the Peckham Hanover Independent Chapel, Camberwell.

    2. Thomas Bosher was baptised on 17 April 1775 in Brightwell.

    3. Mary Bosher was baptised on 31 August 1777 in Brightwell.

    4. James Bosher was baptised on 17 October 1779 in Brightwell.  He died aged 48 years and was buried on 20 September 1826 in Brightwell.  He was then described as a disabled soldier.  He married Sarah Shaler on 19 August 1816 in Brightwell.  She died aged 38 years and was buried on 5 April 1829 in Brightwell.  The couple had 4 known children:

      1. Mary Bosher was baptised on 1 September 1816 in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

      2. Elizabeth Bosher was born in 1819.

      3. Enoch Bosher was born in 1821.

      4. James Bosher was born in 1823.

    5. Robert Bosher was baptised on 21 April 1782 in Brightwell.  He was buried in Brightwell on 9 February 1811.  He married Mary Church on 22 November 1802 in Brightwell.  Brother James was witness to the marriage.

    6. Ann Bosher was baptised on 7 November 1784 in Brightwell.

    7. Richard Bosher was baptised on 5 August 1787 in Brightwell.  He married Katherine Pryor on 20 December 1818 in Harwell, Berkshire.  The couple may have had 12 children:

      1. Dinah Bosher was born in 1819 in Harwell, Berkshire.

      2. William Bosher was born in 1821 in Harwell and died in 1902.

      3. Rachel Bosher was born on 3 November 1823 in Harwell.  She married James Snuggs on 1 June 1848 in Harwell.  In 1881 the couple were living in Harwell and James as an Agricultural Labourer.  He was born about 1825 in Harwell.

      4. Katherine Bosher was baptised on 8 May 1825 in East Lockinge.

      5. David Bosher was born in 1826 in Harwell.  He died on 21 May 1854.  David married Jane Tame on 9 December 1848 in Harwell.

      6. Mary Ann Bosher was baptised on 22 March 1829 in East Lockinge, Berkshire.

      7. Ellen Bosher was baptised on 27 September 1830 in Harwell.

      8. Harriet Bosher was baptised on 3 April 1831 in East Lockinge.  She married John Arding in October 1854 in Ardington, Berkshire.

      9. Richard Bosher was baptised on 4 December 1831 in Harwell.

      10. James Bosher was born about 1831.

      11. Hannah Bosher was baptised on 9 February 1834 in East Lockinge.

      12. Elizabeth Bosher was baptised on 3 July 1836 in East Lockinge.

    8. William Bosher was baptised on 12 February 1792 in Brightwell and buried there on 26 July 1792, aged 5 months.

  2. James Bosher was baptised on 9 May 1752 in Brightwell.  He died aged 63 years and was buried on 31 July 1815 in Cholsey.  He inherited £100 from his father.  He married Elizabeth Fox of Great Milton, Oxfordshire in 1775 in Brightwell.  They had 2 known children:

    1. William Bosher was baptised on 30 June 1776 in Brightwell.  He died aged 64 years and was buried in Cholsey on 7 March 1840.  He married Mary Park by Licence on 8 October 1800 in Cholsey.  Thomas Bosher was a witness to the marriage.  Mary died aged 77 years in 1849 and was buried in Brightwell, therefore, she was born about 1772.  William and Mary had 8 known children:

      1. James Bosher was born on 30 July and baptised on 29 August 1801 in Cholsey.  He married Mary Coster on 9 June 1825 in Cholsey.  The couple had 7 known children:

        1. Enos Bosher was born 1826 in Cholsey.

        2. Hales Bosher was born in 1827 in Cholsey.

        3. Jane Bosher was born in 1829 in Cholsey.

        4. Enoch Bosher was born in 1831 in Cholsey.  In 1881 he was a widower living at Park Lodge, Basildon, Berkshire.  He was then a Carter and living with 2 children:

          1. James Bosher was born in 1859 in Basildon (second quarter).  He was a Carter in 1881.

          2. Sophia Bosher was born about 1863 in Basildon.  She was a Housekeeper in 1881.

        5. William Bosher was born in 1833 in Cholsey.

        6. James Bosher was born in 1835 in Cholsey.  He lived in Brentford and was a builder/bricklayer.  In 1871 he was a tailor and in 1891/2 a Beer Retailer.

        7. Maryann Bosher was born in 1837 in Cholsey.

      2. Mary Ann Boshire was born on 15 March and baptised on 12 April 1803 in Cholsey.  She married Thomas Garlick in 1820.  He was born about 1793.  Mary Ann was a widow by 1881 and was then living the household of her son George.  They had 9 children, 2 of whom were:

        1. William Garlick was born in 1833 in Cholsey.  He died in 1885.  He married Mary Ann.  She died in 1909 and they are both buried in Cholsey.  In 1881 the family were living at West End, Cholsey and William was then an Agricultural Labourer  The couple had 11 children, 5 of whom was:

          1. William Garlick was born in 1860 in Cholsey (second quarter).  He was an Agricultural Labourer in 1881.

          2. Charles Garlick was born in 1861 in Cholsey (first quarter).  He died in 1926.  He married Sarah Elizabeth Brown.  The couple had 8 children, 1 of whom was:

            1. Amy Florence Garlick was born in 1907 in Cholsey (third quarter).  She died in 1950 in Cholsey.  She married Ernest Alfred Polley in 1931 in Cholsey.  The couple had 4 children.

          3. Alice Garlick was born about 1869 in Cholsey.

          4. Louisa Garlick was born in 1871 in Cholsey (second quarter).

          5. Ellen Garlick was born in 1876 in Cholsey (fourth quarter).

        2. George Garlick was born 1844 in Cholsey (first quarter).  He married Martha E Bosher in 1875 (fourth quarter).  She was born 1848 in Steventon, Berkshire.  In 1881 the family were living in Ilges Lane, Cholsey, and George was then an Agricultural Labourer.  The couple had about 5 children:

          1. Henrietta Louisa Bosher was born in 1872 in Steventon (fourth quarter).  She married John William R Deeks in 1897 (second quarter in the Uxbridge district).

          2. William Freeman Garlick was born in 1876 in Cholsey (third quarter).

          3. Ellen Garlick was born in 1878 in Cholsey (first quarter).

          4. Elizabeth Garlick was born about 1880 in Cholsey.

          5. Mary Ann Garlick was born 1888 in Cholsey.

      3. Henry Boshire was born on 7 January and baptised on 27 January 1805 in Cholsey.

      4. John Boshere was born on 20 January 1807 and baptised on 20 February 1807 in Cholsey.

      5. Ann Bosher was born on 21 November 1808 and baptised on 2 February 1809 in Cholsey.  She died aged 17 years in 1826 and was buried in Cholsey.

      6. Jane Bosher was born on 5 May and baptised on 6 June 1811 in Cholsey.

      7. William Bosher was baptised on 1 August 1813 in Cholsey.

      8. Martha Bosher was baptised on 19 March 1815 in Cholsey.

      In 1820 William was recorded in the Cholsey Poll Book in respect of a house and land.

    2. James Bosher was baptised on 3 November in Brightwell and buried there on 3 December 1782.

    In 1796 James (born 1752) was recorded in the Cholsey Poll Book as the occupier of his father's property.  In the 1796 Church Account Book, James received 10 shillings for one days building work.  (Bosher Builders still exist in Cholsey (as at November 2004), where they occupy an old large house for offices.  Their white vans with blue sign writing are seen about and their boards appear outside the Wallingford Town Hall, Reading Hospital and private houses.)

  3. William Bosher was baptised on 22 September 1754 in Brightwell - my 5x Great Grandfather.  He married Phillis Vize in 1775.  (They have their own page.)

  4. Richard Bosier was baptised on 12 September 1756 in Brightwell.  He marry Mary Alder on 8 January 1781 in Milton, Berkshire.  The couple had 5 known children:

    1. John Bosher was baptised on 22 July 1781 in Milton, Berkshire.

    2. Richard Bosher was baptised on 25 January 1783 in Milton.

    3. Robert Bosher was baptised on 6 November 1785 in Milton.

    4. Anne Bosher was baptised on 28 April 1788 in Milton.

    5. Elizabeth Bosher was baptised on 30 January 1791 in Milton.

  5. John Bosher was baptised on 4 March 1759 in Brightwell.  He was buried on 23 March 1823 in Cholsey.  He married Sarah Kirk on 5 April 1779 in Cholsey.  John and Sarah had 7 known children:

    1. Sarah Bousher was baptised on 23 July 1780 in Cholsey.  Her mother's name was recorded against her baptism as Sarah.

    2. Thomas Bosher was baptised on 24 December 1781 in Cholsey.  His mother was Sarah.

    3. Ann Boshire was baptised on 2 November 1782 in Cholsey.  Her mother was Sarah.

    4. Elizabeth Boshier was baptised on 9 March 1784.  Her mother was Sarah.

    5. John Bosher was baptised on 21 December 1788 in Cholsey, Berkshire.  His mother's name was recorded as Mary against his baptism.  Was this an error?  He died in Cholsey in 1843.  He was a Stonemason and Bricklayer.  John married Sarah Wright on 4 February 1811 in the St. Mary's parish of Reading, Berkshire.  They had 10 known children:

      1. Charles Bosher was baptised on 21 January 1812 in Cholsey.

      2. Charlotte Bosher was born on 6 January 1813 and baptised on 20 December 1818 in Cholsey.

      3. Thomas Bosher was born on 5 May 1816 and baptised on 20 December 1818 in Cholsey.  He was a Bricklayer.  Thomas married Ann Maria.

      4. Jesse Bosher was baptised on 20 December 1818 in Cholsey.

      5. Jane Bosher was baptised on 9 August 1825 in Cholsey.

      6. Robert Bosher was baptised on 9 August 1825 in Cholsey.

      7. John Bosher was born in 1827.

    6. William Bosher was born in 1790.

    7. Keren Happuck Bosher was baptised on 2 January 1791 in Cholsey.  Her mother was Sarah.  As Charanhapack Bosher (as per the BIVR) she married Richard Beal on 29 September 1814 in Cholsey.

  6. Robert Bosher was baptised on 13 December 1761 in Brightwell.

  7. Elizabeth Bosher was baptised on 22 July 1764 in Brightwell.  Did she marry William Simmons on 6 September 1784 in Purley, Berkshire?
